The Opportunity

KBR is executing a Digital Engineering strategy to manage complexity and leverage KBR technical capability as a strategic partner to Defence and deliver speed to capability for our customers. The strategy includes enablement of the digital engineering capability to deliver environments and facilities to support the needs of the business. It also includes the capability to execute Defence programs to develop, host and integrate systems as models leading to a digital twin. KBR are seeking an experienced System Modeller to drive execution of modelling and simulation activity to help uplift the engineering capability of the enterprise. You will be, or develop into, a Subject Matter Expert in System Modelling that can be called upon by others in the enterprise. This will necessitate the development and delivery of architectural frameworks, modelling guides, training material, tools guides and tool configurations. You will seek out and institutionalise best practices in system modelling. You will recognise that system modelling is a part of system engineering and ensure integration with all stages of the system engineering life cycle and corresponding tools. The current system modelling tool of choice by KBR and envisaged to be by Australia Defence is Cameo Systems Architect. As such expertise will be required or required to be developed with Cameo. That said there are a wide variety of system modelling tools all with different strengths and weaknesses. The role will need to be cognisant of emerging trends in system modelling methodologies, tools, and modelling languages. Such trends include but are not limited to the introduction of artificial intelligence capabilities and SysML2. It must be remembered that system modelling tools, apart from communicating a design, are fundamentally about improving productivity and reducing defects. The simulation capabilities of system modelling are especially critical. System modelling is also a team sport involving inputs of many specialists and any enterprise uplift must take into account the conduct of system modelling by teams and teams of teams. A thorough understanding and application of configuration and change management with system modelling is critical. As this role is to improve enterprise maturity, good communications and engagement skills will be required to assist in the adoption of new technologies and methods. The role may also be needed to support bid responses pertaining to enterprise uplift in system modelling (and digital engineering). The development of roadmaps can support this and similar related needs.

Responsibilities
  • Providing guidance and support to other personnel in the enterprise in system modelling including architectural frameworks, languages, methods, and tools.
  • Developing artefacts that support the enterprise in improving maturity of system modelling including modelling guides, work instructions, and training material.
  • Delivering demonstrations and training on system modelling to foster adoption and build skills within the enterprise.
  • Remaining across the development of new technologies and methods applicable to system modelling.
  • Supporting the integration of system modelling as part of the system engineering life cycle.
  • Supporting the integration of system modelling tools with other system engineering tools and automating functionality that improves quality and productivity.
  • Engaging with stakeholders in respect to system modelling needs and formulating enterprise plans and capability roadmaps.
  • As required, supporting bod responses with material relating to system modelling (and digital engineering) capabilities and direction.
  • As required, presenting to external parties on our system modelling expertise for the purposes of education and supporting business winning.
  • Facilitating the integration of different disciplines into functional and physical modelling such as safety, security and integrated logistics support.
  • Supporting the development of the Australian Digital Engineering Environment.

  • Familiarity and ideally good proficiency with architectural frameworks such as UAF, NAF, and DODAF.
