Job summary

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) in NSW is seeking a Senior Spatial Analyst to lead spatial data management and analysis for conservation programs. You’ll manage aerial imagery interpretation, QA/QC for CSIS data, and respond to CIIT queries within an SDIS framework.

You will work in a collaborative, geographically distributed team to protect NSW’s environment, biodiversity and cultural heritage, with flexible hybrid arrangements across NSW.

• 1 x Temporary Up to 30th November 2027, full-time 35 hours per week opportunity
• Office location Paramatta upon negotiation across NSW, hybrid working supported
• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $119,292.00 base to $134,587.00 + super

Our Regulatory Practice and Engagement, Data Intelligence and Spatial (SDIS) team within the Regulatory Practice and Engagement Branch is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Spatial Analyst to provide specialist spatial data management and analysis leadership that supports conservation program objectives and outcomes for Biodiversity and Heritage Regulator (BHR)CHR through the development of effective spatial data provisioning solutions and system support.

The role will primarily focus on the delivery of Spatial Services, including (but not limited to) aerial photograph interpretation to support investigative decision-making; quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of spatial compliance outcomes for capture in the Compliance Spatial Information System (CSIS); and responding to Compliance Interest Interagency Tool(CIIT) queries. In line with SDIS’s continuous improvement focus, the role will also identify opportunities to enhance existing processes, including the enablement of system-based improvements.

Working within a collaborative and geographically dispersed team, you'll contribute to high-profile initiatives that help protect NSW's natural environment, biodiversity and cultural heritage while supporting the delivery of strategic business outcomes

About You

• Demonstrated experience applying spatial analysis and aerial imagery interpretation to support compliance, regulatory, or investigative functions within a government environment, ensuring advice is evidence‑based and fit for decision‑making
• Extensive experience delivering spatial data management, GIS analysis and spatial information solutions in a complex operational environment.
• Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with GIS platforms and spatial datasets, including ArcGIS and related technologies.
• Prior experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, including identifying process inefficiencies, supporting system‑based enhancements, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to improve service delivery.
• Proven ability to interpret complex business challenges and develop practical, data-driven spatial solutions that support organisational priorities.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams and with external service providers.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated project management capability, including planning, prioritisation, risk management and the successful delivery of projects and initiatives.
• A collaborative and proactive approach, with strong problem‑solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality outcomes.
