Job summary

Profectus is seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect to lead cloud transformation for an Australian Government department. You will design end-to-end Azure solutions, drive migration of legacy systems to secure, scalable platforms, and provide direction to engineering, security and delivery teams.

Designs must meet ISM/PSPF requirements and align with whole-of-government standards. In this senior role you will govern architectures, support accreditation, and transfer knowledge to agency

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in solution and cloud architecture for complex cloud transformation programs.
• Proven ability to design and govern cloud solutions using IaC, CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Government security, risk and assurance requirements (ISM/PSPF).
• Experience delivering cloud solutions in secure, regulated environments.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure technologies (Windows Server, SQL Server, SharePoint, .NET, IIS, AD).
• Experience mentoring junior staff and contributing to design governance and assurance.

• Champion infrastructure-as-code, automation and Azure DevOps pipelines.
• Identify architectural risks and inform decision-making throughout delivery.
• Assist in security assurance activities, disaster recovery and resilience planning.

Job description

Profectus is seeking experienced a Senior Solution Architect to support cloud transformation and modernisation work within a department of the Australian Government. The work involves designing end-to-end solution architecture for the move of established business systems from legacy infrastructure to secure, scalable and resilient cloud-native platforms on Microsoft Azure. You will lead the development of target-state designs across application, integration, data, identity, networking and platform domains, and provide architectural direction to engineering, security and delivery teams. Designs must meet Australian Government security and assurance requirements, and the role contributes to design governance, technical decision-making and knowledge transfer that builds lasting capability within the agency.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of target-state architecture, aligned to business requirements, Azure design practice and whole-of-government standards
• Design end-to-end Azure solutions across application, data, integration, networking, identity and security domains to support the migration of business systems to Platform-as-a-Service
• Provide architectural direction and technical guidance on application migration, modernisation and cloud-native design to improve performance, resilience, maintainability and operational support
• Design and govern Azure landing zones, identity architectures, networking patterns, governance models and security controls to keep cloud environments secure, compliant and well managed
• Work with security architects, cloud engineers, developers, business stakeholders and delivery partners so designs meet business, security, operational and project objectives
• Produce and maintain solution architectures, technical designs and implementation artefacts that support delivery assurance and compliance with the Information Security Manual, PSPF, ASD secure cloud guidance, Azure design practice and departmental standards
• Support architecture governance, design reviews and assurance activities, including security accreditation, operational readiness and transition to business-as-usual operations
• Support infrastructure-as-code, automation and Azure DevOps deployment pipelines
• Identify and manage architectural risks, dependencies, technical debt and design decisions across the delivery lifecycle
• Support security assurance and resilience activities, including disaster recovery, business continuity, IRAP assessments, remediation of security findings and Authority to Operate processes
• Maintain architecture documentation, integration specifications and architecture decision records
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and knowledge transfer to project teams and agency staff

Required Experience

• Extensive experience in solution and cloud architecture, including leading the design and delivery of complex cloud transformation programs
• Proven ability to design and govern cloud solutions that use infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices to deliver secure and repeatable outcomes
• Strong understanding of Australian Government security, risk and assurance requirements, including the ISM and PSPF
• Experience delivering cloud solutions for complex applications in secure and highly regulated environments
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft platform technologies such as Windows Server, SQL Server, SharePoint, .NET, IIS and Active Directory Federation Services
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience on whole-of-government or nationally significant programs
• Experience mentoring and developing junior technical staff
• Relevant Microsoft Azure architecture certifications
• Experience supporting IRAP assessments and Authority to Operate processes

Security Clearance Requirements

• Must be an Australian Citizen
• Must have a current AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance (minimum)
