Job summary

Public Sector People is sourcing a Senior Solicitor for a contract opportunity to deliver expert legal advice across local government matters in NSW. You will work with senior leaders, manage complex litigation, and help mitigate legal risk while supporting organisational objectives.

You will advise on governance, compliance and legislative obligations, represent Council in courts and tribunals, and draft/ negotiate key contracts and documentation with autonomy and stakeholder collaboration.

Qualifications

• Admission as a Solicitor; NSW Supreme Court admissibility.
• Significant post-admission experience in litigation, advocacy and complex legal advisory work.
• Strong knowledge of local government legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience providing strategic legal advice within a large and complex organisation.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously while partnering effectively with executive and operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide authoritative legal advice on complex and sensitive local government matters.
• Conduct advocacy and represent Council in courts and tribunals, including the Land and Environment Court.
• Prepare and manage litigation, including court documents, evidence and external counsel.
• Review, draft and negotiate contracts, agreements and legal documentation.
• Advise on governance, compliance, probity and legislative obligations.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks while supporting organisational objectives.
• Deliver legal guidance and training to internal stakeholders.
• Monitor legislative changes and provide practical advice on potential impacts.
