Job summary

Kraken is seeking a senior software engineer to join Energetiq’s Australian team. You will design, build and maintain high-performance code across the full stack, with a focus on Java/Spring on the backend and React on the frontend, deployed on AWS.

You’ll collaborate in a fast-paced Agile environment and mentor junior engineers. You’ll thrive with strong problem-solving skills, ownership, and a passion for delivering value to customers in energy tech.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with Java and Spring in production systems.
  • Experience with AWS and serverless technologies (Lambda, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, API Gateway).
  • Strong full-stack capabilities with React and backend/frontend collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain high-performance, reusable code.
  • Ensure performance, reliability and quality of the Energetiq platform.
  • Contribute across the stack: frontend (React) to backend (Java) and infrastructure (AWS).
  • Contribute to engineering culture via reviews and pairing.
  • Mentor junior engineers through pairing and code/design reviews.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and stand-ups.

About the role

We’re looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful. We’re looking for an exceptional person to help us continuously deliver features that provide value to our customers. Our ideal engineer would be an individual who loves to engage with interesting software problems, has significant experience with Java, is comfortable working with React and Aurora Postgres, and has a passion for full-stack development. You will thrive in a collaborative, agile environment where customer focus and ownership are key.

What you’ll do…
  • Design, build and maintain high performance, reusable & reliable code

  • Ensure the best possible performance, reliability and quality of the Energetiq platform

  • Contribute to development across the entire stack from the front end down (React), backend (Java) to the infrastructure that the platform runs on (AWS)

  • Contribute to the software engineering culture here at Energetiq & Kraken

  • Mentor junior engineers via pairing, design review & code review

  • Participate in agile ceremonies and practices such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives.

  • Work as part of a team of engineers, regularly seeking feedback and growing your skills as technical professionals.

What you’ll need
  • In-depth industry experience in software development and design, with proven expertise in Java and Spring.

  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud providers, and serverless technologies e.g. AWS Lambda, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, API Gateway

  • A drive to get things done in a collaborative, agile development environment

  • A proven ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent analytical and multitasking skills
