Job summary

Telstra is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - IOS to drive advanced iOS development and architectural decisions. You will translate customer needs into scalable native apps, lead design discussions, and champion quality and security across the full development lifecycle.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful Telstra self-service and B2B applications. Your expertise in Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit and CI/CD will help shape reusable components,

• Advanced iOS development using Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit and modern Apple frameworks.

What You’ll Do

Product & Technology - Software Engineering & IT develops and maintains Telstra’s software and IT systems, working on some really cutting-edge technologies.

As the Senior Software Engineer, you will use your advanced software engineering knowledge to deliver complex application capabilities and improve the health of Telstra’s many digital assets. You will translate customer and business needs into maintainable technical solutions, contributes to architectural decisions, champion quality and security, and supports software across the full development lifecycle. Working in a team that works directly on the Telstra Self Service App and many other B2B customer applications, you will identify areas of improvement while being forward thinking demonstrating your ability to identify improvement areas and facilitate solutions.

Responsibilities include:

• Design, develop and maintain high-quality native iOS applications and reusable components using modern Swift technologies, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutions.

• Contribute to solution design, technical planning, estimation and architecture discussions, proactively identifying dependencies, risks and improvement opportunities.

• Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, secure coding practices, performance optimisation, accessibility and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Take end-to-end ownership of features across the software development lifecycle, from design and development through to release, production support and ongoing maintenance.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders including Product, Design, Architecture, Security, Quality Engineering and Operations to deliver customer and business outcomes.

• Lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, share knowledge and provide guidance that uplifts team capability, technical standards and engineering best practices.

About You

You have strong IOS development technology experience combined with excellent stakeholder management, engagement and presentation skills. You thrive in a role that is autonomous yet collaborative while working in an Agile team embedded in CI/CD best practice. You understand customer needs and use this knowledge to advise development teams and product Managers on best engineering solutions in line with Tech capabilities and ability to manage multiple sprint priorities as required.

Essential Skills ant Technologies:

• Advanced iOS development using Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit and modern Apple frameworks.

• Strong engineering judgement with expertise in scalable architecture, reusable components and mobile best practices.

• Secure, accessible and quality-focused delivery supported by automated testing, CI/CD and modern development workflows.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production, performance and reliability issues in high-availability environments.

• Experience leveraging APIs, microservices, observability tools and AI-assisted engineering capabilities, including GitHub Copilot.

• Technical leadership, stakeholder influence, mentoring and collaboration skills with a focus on continuous improvement and delivery outcomes.

Nice to have:

• Relevant Apple, cloud, security, accessibility, AI or agile certifications.

• Android development experience and a willingness to grow in this area.

• Experience with iOS architecture evolution, modularisation, design systems, accessibility and application performance at scale.

• Experience working in large-scale digital product environments with multiple delivery teams and shared platforms.

• Basic understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), its common use cases and the evolving AI market landscape.

• Ability to create and configure AI agents and reusable skills for defined engineering or business use cases.
