Job summary

Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to orchestrate AI agents across the full stack within a leading genomics research team. This is a 2-year full-time contract offering remote work with optional office space in Sydney or Melbourne and regular in-person team events.

You will collaborate with bioinformaticians and researchers, use AI coding assistants, review AI-generated code, and deploy services on Google Cloud Platform to support large-scale

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python, and ability to quickly master TypeScript via AI.
• Commitment to using LLMs and AI agents as a primary tool for scaling output, debugging and verification.
• Experience deploying and running backend services on a major cloud platform; familiarity with Google Cloud is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills to engage with researchers in a research-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with bioinformaticians and researchers to understand data bottlenecks and iteratively solve problems.
• Use AI coding assistants and agents to accelerate development across the stack.
• Review and refine AI-generated code and write tests to ensure reliability.
• Develop high-quality open-source software packages for bioinformaticians, researchers and clinicians.
• Deploy and run services within Google Cloud Platform for large-scale genomic analysis.
