About us
Boeing Defence Australia is shaping the future of aerospace and delivering some of the nation\'s most important programs for the Australian Defence Force.
Joining us is a chance to make your mark, working with a diverse team that is united in pushing the boundaries of imagination and excellence.
We currently employ more than 2,500 people across 14 sites in Australia and three international locations and have a range of opportunities available as we plan for future growth.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to support the LAND4140 Battle Management System (BMS) Project as part of the Battlespace Communications System (BCS) Enterprise. This role is based in Brisbane.
BCS is a cutting-edge networking product that is the centerpiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for ADF personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs. The LAND4140 BMS Project will enhance and update the ADF\'s existing BMS with a world leading mission critical Command and Control (C2) capability.
A core technical challenge for this role is integrating and optimising the BMS ecosystem across multiple existing platforms and infrastructure, to deliver a cohesive, connected BMS capability to Army.
Your work will have real operational impact — supporting Australian Army personnel in the field and underpinning critical, real-world decision-making. Releases are planned annually, but engineering studies and evaluations happen far more frequently — you\'ll be expected to prototype, test ideas quickly, and fail fast to drive progress between releases.
As a senior member of a software team of up to 10 engineers, you will be influential in shaping the solution — working closely with architects and technical leads to shape designs and roadmaps, not just implement them. We\'re looking for innovators who want to drive the best outcome for capability, not just deliver to spec. You\'ll lead technical scope on key work packages, mentor junior and graduate engineers, and help identify and prioritise tasking across the team, while remaining hands-on in design, development and integration. There is a clear pathway to progress into a Technical Lead role, including across other Boeing Defence Australia projects and teams.
Essential:
We invite a diverse range of people to apply, including people from outside of the defence industry.
Desirable:
Our team has a unique culture, which prioritises innovation whilst maintaining flexibility and fun. We are collaborative, adaptable and outcome-focused. You\'ll find yourself working in an inclusive team, where people really matter. We work flexibly, with a hybrid in office/work from home arrangement.
We\'re looking for someone who gives a damn, follows through on commitments, is curious and courageous enough to do cool things, and wants to help shape the future of the capability.
At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. From the seabed to outer space you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity and inclusion are core values. We\'re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that\'s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.
We\'d love to see examples of systems you\'ve architected or led, and situations where you\'ve mentored engineers to a measurable outcome. If you have relevant public work (e.g. GitHub, blog or portfolio), feel free to include a link in your application.
