Overview

Our client is a respected boutique accounting firm located in Melbourne’s inner east. The practice services a select portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, professionals, and private investors, offering expertise across SMSF, tax compliance, and business advisory. The team is collaborative, client-focused, and committed to professional excellence.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior SMSF Accountant to take on a key role within the firm. With approximately 200 high-quality SMSFs under management, the firm is seeking a capable professional who can deliver technical compliance while also enjoy the opportunity to delve into business advisory/ services engagements (i.e. non-SMSF).

The successful candidate will be trained for team supervision responsibilities, with a clear development pathway and mentorship from experienced leaders. You will also work alongside an established offshore team to ensure efficiency in compliance delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end SMSF compliance, including financials, tax returns, and audit prep
• Work directly with HNWI clients and their advisors to deliver tailored solutions
• Contribute to the firm’s business advisory projects (this is a core part of the role)
• Review work completed by junior and offshore team members, providing feedback and support
• Stay abreast of industry developments, ensuring best practice standards are upheld
• Assist in managing workflows and supporting the broader SMSF team’s operational needs

About You

• 4-5+ years’ experience in SMSF accounting within a public practice setting
• CA/CPA qualified or close to completion
• Proven experience managing a portfolio of SMSFs
• Strong interest in business advisory work
• Professional and articulate communicator, comfortable dealing with high-calibre clients
• Eager to step into a leadership role and help mentor junior team members
