Job summary

Betashares Capital is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to build and operate reliable, scalable software with a strong focus on delivery. The role emphasizes treating reliability as a software problem through code, automation and solid engineering practices.

You will collaborate with software engineers to improve the reliability of our AWS-based platform, strengthen engineering foundations and enable safe, frequent deployments across teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on SRE/Platform engineering with production systems in AWS.
• Experience with IaC, automation and modern CI/CD.
• Experience with observability, monitoring and alerting using SLOs/SLIs.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and improve reliable, scalable and maintainable systems supporting Betashares Direct.
• Build tooling and automation that reduces manual operational work and improves engineering productivity.
• Improve the reliability, resilience and observability of applications and services running in AWS.
• Partner with software engineering teams to design systems that can be deployed, operated and evolved safely at scale.
• Improve deployment, release and operational practices to enable teams to deliver changes quickly without compromising reliability standards.
• Identify recurring reliability issues and automate their fixes rather than manual processes.
• Contribute to incident response and post-incident improvement with lasting engineering changes.
• Define practical reliability measures, engineering standards and operational practices.
• Provide senior technical judgement on trade-offs between reliability, system complexity, delivery speed and risk.

We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to help Betashares Direct build and operate reliable, scalable software while maintaining a strong focus on delivery. This is an engineering role for someone who sees reliability as a software problem and uses code, automation and sound engineering practices to improve how systems are built, deployed and operated.

You will work closely with software engineers and other technology stakeholders to improve the reliability of our AWS-based platform, strengthen our engineering foundations and make it easier for teams to deliver changes safely and frequently. We are looking for someone comfortable balancing reliability and operational risk with the need to keep shipping and improving the product.

Role Responsibilities

• Build software, tooling and automation that reduces manual operational work and improves engineering productivity.
• Improve the reliability, resilience and observability of applications and services running in AWS.
• Partner with software engineering teams to design systems that can be deployed, operated and evolved safely at scale.
• Improve deployment, release and operational practices to enable teams to deliver changes quickly without compromising appropriate reliability standards.
• Identify recurring reliability issues and solve their underlying causes through engineering and automation rather than manual processes.
• Contribute to incident response and post-incident improvement, turning operational learnings into lasting engineering changes.
• Help define and evolve practical reliability measures, engineering standards and operational practices.
• Provide senior technical judgement on trade-offs between reliability, system complexity, delivery speed and operational risk.

Key skills and experience

Must-haves

• Strong professional software engineering experience, including building, testing and shipping production software.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering or Production Engineering roles.
• Strong experience designing, building and operating production systems in AWS.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, automation and modern CI/CD and deployment practices.
• Experience designing and operating observability, monitoring and alerting for distributed production systems, including using service-level measures to improve reliability.
• Strong track record applying software engineering principles to reliability and operational problems, including automating repetitive work, resolving systemic issues and balancing reliability with delivery speed.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience supporting high-availability digital products.
• Experience working in financial services, fintech or another regulated technology environment.
• Experience with agentic AI engineering.
