Job summary

VINCI Construction Grands Projects is seeking a Senior Safety Advisor to champion world-class health, safety and risk management on the Quakers Hill Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade project in Sydney. You will lead on-site safety culture, refine the Project Safety Management System, and coach delivery teams to zero accidents.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Lead, you will oversee risk assessments, SWMS reviews and regulatory compliance, while engaging subcontractors and stakeholders to

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in WHS, Engineering, Construction Management, or aligned field.
• Minimum 5 years of construction H&S on major infrastructure or civil projects.
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, codes of practice and industry standards.
• Experience in JV environments and brownfield utility sites is highly regarded.
• Excellent communication and leadership to coach site teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible on-site leadership, mentoring site engineers, supervisors and subcontractors to cultivate a proactive safety culture.
• Facilitate risk assessments, lead SWMS reviews, participate in pre-starts, and ensure controls for high-risk operations.
• Support continuous improvement of the Safety Management System; conduct inspections, audits, and observations for compliance.
• Lead and participate in incident investigations, identify root causes and ensure timely close-out of corrective actions.
• Engage subcontractors and stakeholders to deliver inductions and toolbox talks and maintain client/regulatory relationships.
• Track safety metrics and provide practical advice to project leadership to mitigate risks.

As part of our project team delivering the Quakers Hill Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Safety Advisor to champion world-class health, safety, and risk management standards.

Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Lead, you will play a pivotal on-site leadership role. You will oversee and continuously refine the Project Safety Management System across assigned work areas, coach multidisciplinary delivery teams, and partner with subcontractors to uphold our core commitment: Together, strive for zero accidents.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety Leadership & Culture: Provide visible on-site leadership, mentoring site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors to cultivate an engaged, proactive safety culture.
• Critical Risk Management: Facilitate high-impact risk assessments, lead SWMS reviews, participate in pre-starts, and ensure robust control measures for high-risk operations (including lifting operations, live services, plant-people interfaces, traffic management, and energisation works).
• System Assurance & Compliance: Support continuous improvement of the Project Safety Management System; conduct thorough site inspections, audits, and safety observations to verify compliance with NSW WHS legislation and Joint Venture standards.
• Incident Investigation & Reporting: Lead and participate in incident investigations, identify root causes, verify timely close-out of corrective actions, and share key lessons across the project.
• Subcontractor & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner closely with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure safety alignment, deliver high-quality project inductions and toolbox talks, and maintain constructive relationships with client representatives and regulatory bodies.
• Performance Monitoring: Track safety metrics, proactively identify emerging site risks, and provide practical, solution-focused advice to the project leadership team.

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications: Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (WHS), Engineering, Construction Management, or an aligned field.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of dedicated construction H&S experience across major infrastructure, utilities, industrial, or complex civil projects.
• High-Risk Knowledge: Proven track record managing critical risks and high-risk construction activities on active sites.
• Regulatory Expertise: Strong command of Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
• JV & Brownfield Exposure: Prior experience within Joint Venture (JV) environments and operational/brownfield utility sites will be highly regarded.
• People & Influencing Skills: Exceptional communication, coaching, and stakeholder management capabilities with a collaborative, boots-on-the-ground approach.
