Job summary

Domain Group seeks a Senior QA Engineer to lead quality engineering across product and engineering teams, acting as a quality coach and shift-left advocate. The role embeds quality throughout the software development lifecycle with close collaboration to engineers, product managers and designers.

You will champion automated testing across web, API and mobile using Cypress, Playwright, Cucumber and Postman, guiding testing strategies and improving automation coverage while reducing production

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline.
• Extensive experience implementing shift-left and quality assurance in agile product development.
• Strong expertise across frontend, backend, API, mobile, and end‑to‑end testing.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern delivery practices (Jenkins, GitHub).
• Ability to influence engineering teams and coach on quality engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Drive testing strategies balancing unit, integration, API, E2E, accessibility, and exploratory testing.

• Drive continuous improvement of quality standards, tooling, and processes.
• Advise on embedding automated testing and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
• Foster shared ownership of quality across teams.

The Senior QA Engineer will drive quality engineering excellence across product and engineering teams, acting as a quality coach, mentor, and advocate for shift-left testing practices. This pivotal role focuses on embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle by partnering closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to build quality in from the earliest stages of development.

Leveraging deep expertise in test automation, quality assurance practices, and modern delivery pipelines, the Senior QA Engineer will guide teams in adopting effective testing strategies, improving automation coverage, reducing production risk, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. The role combines hands‑on technical expertise with strong leadership, coaching, and collaboration skills to continuously raise the quality maturity of engineering teams.

The Senior QA Engineer can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.

What You'll Do

• Champion shift-left testing practices and embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Design, implement, and maintain automated testing frameworks across web, API, and mobile platforms using tools such as Cypress, Playwright, Cucumber, and Postman.
• Drive effective testing strategies that balance unit, integration, API, end-to-end, accessibility, and exploratory testing.
• Partner with Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to identify risks early, improve testability, and ensure quality is considered during solution design.
• Coach and mentor engineers on quality engineering best practices, automation, and effective testing approaches.
• Drive continuous improvement of quality standards, tooling, and processes.
• Advise on best practices for embedding automated testing and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
• Foster a culture of shared ownership for quality by enabling teams to build, test, and release software with confidence.
• Support and guide non-functional testing practices, including performance, security, and accessibility testing.

Ideally You'll Have

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience implementing shift-left and quality assistance testing methodologies within agile product development environments.
• Strong expertise in quality engineering across frontend, backend, API, mobile, and end-to-end, including experience with Cypress, Playwright, Cucumber, Postman, and related tooling.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, Github and modern software delivery practices.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, quality risks, and testability considerations.
• Proven experience influencing engineering teams and coaching developers to adopt quality engineering best practices and shared ownership of quality.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, stakeholder management, and organisational skills, with the ability to influence teams without direct authority.
• Familiarity with non-functional testing principles, including performance, security, accessibility and reliability testing.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development, AI testing tools, and quality engineering practices for validating AI-generated code is optional but will be highly regarded.
