Job summary

Design And Build, a well-established commercial shopfitting company in Melbourne, is seeking a Senior Project Manager to take full ownership of project delivery from contract award through to completion. You will sit between the directors and delivery team, running day-to-day management and ensuring quality, service and attention to detail.

You will manage 2–3 projects concurrently, lead a team of around 12, and drive procurement, programmes and cost control while maintaining strong client

• Solid experience managing commercial construction or fit-out projects.
• Strong understanding of construction details, sequencing and subcontractor scopes.
• Proven ability to run multiple projects and lead a team.
• Commercially aware with budgets, variations and margins.
• Confident decision-maker who resolves issues and takes responsibility.
• Comfortable dealing with clients, architects and consultants.
• Organised, proactive and hands-on when required.

Responsibilities

• Own projects from handover to completion and defects.
• Lead a team of ~12 including Carpenters, Site Managers and Contract Administrators.
• Manage construction programmes, identify delays early and keep projects moving toward completion.
• Oversee subcontractor engagement, trade scopes, purchase orders and long-lead items.
• Manage project costs, variations, progress claims and commercial risks.
• Lead project meetings and deal directly with clients, architects, consultants and subcontractors.
• Identify issues early, make decisions and find practical solutions.
• Provide clear weekly updates on progress, programme, costs and procurement.

A well-established commercial shopfitting company delivering retail and hospitality projects is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to take full ownership of project delivery, from contract award through to completion.

Sitting between the directors and the delivery team, you ll take the day-to-day project management workload off the directors plates while maintaining the quality, service and attention to detail our clients expect. You ll have the authority to run your projects, direct your team and make the calls that keep jobs moving.

What You ll Be Doing Day to day,

You ll manage 2-3 projects concurrently and lead a team of approximately 12, including Carpenters, Site Managers and Contract Administrators.

• Project delivery: Own your projects from handover and start-up through construction, completion and defects
• Team leadership: Lead and manage Site Managers, Contract Administrators and carpenters, setting priorities and holding people accountable
• Programme: Manage construction programmes, identify delays early and keep projects moving toward completion
• Procurement: Oversee subcontractor engagement, trade scopes, purchase orders and long-lead items
• Commercial management: Manage project costs, variations, progress claims and commercial risks
• Client communication: Lead project meetings and deal directly with clients, architects, consultants and subcontractors
• Problem solving: Identify issues early, make decisions and find practical solutions
• Reporting: Provide clear weekly updates on progress, programme, costs, procurement and any issues requiring director input

About You

• Solid experience managing commercial construction or fit-out projects, ideally in retail or hospitality
• Strong understanding of construction details, sequencing, subcontractor scopes and project delivery
• Proven ability to run multiple projects at once and lead a team
• Commercially aware, with a good grasp of budgets, variations and project margins
• A confident decision-maker who solves problems and takes responsibility
• Comfortable dealing with clients, architects and consultants
• Organised, proactive and willing to get hands-on when required

How the Role Works

The directors will remain involved in major commercial decisions, key client relationships and overall business direction. You ll have the authority to manage day-to-day delivery, direct staff and subcontractors, and make routine project decisions. Major cost, contract, programme and client issues will still be escalated to the directors.
