Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead civil projects in NSW & VIC from Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong or Melbourne offices. You will oversee design management, tendering, contracts, and financials while leveraging a strong local network to deliver iconic projects.

You should bring extensive civil project management experience, the ability to lead engineers and technicians, and a solid grasp of programing, risk and budgets. Flexible working options may be available.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Project management or Construction management is desirable.
  • 7+ years of experience in civil project management preferred.
  • Experience delivering civil projects (stormwater, roads, land development) and councils.
  • Proven ability to manage design, tendering, contracts, schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to lead teams of engineers and technicians and coordinate stakeholders.
  • Strong financial, commercial, and risk management acumen.

About the role

Our established Civil Engineering team is looking for a Senior Project Manager based in either Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong or Melbourne office. A well-established local network and solid relationships within the area will be key to driving success in this role. The role is within our growing Community Development South-East business where you will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of projects. Stantec’s community development team are responsible for the delivery of a variety of projects across numerous disciplines and sectors of all sizes including but not limited to greenfield master planned communities, Local government infrastructure, energy transition infrastructure and more.

The role will suit someone with a strong design side project management experience, proven experience leading teams of engineers and technicians, and solid financial and commercial acumen. Day to day tasks would involve:
  • Support projects across the entire life cycle, including design management, tendering, contract administration, financial management, project scheduling and risk management.

  • Support campaign and proposal staff to identify project opportunities and prepare proposal material with a focus on Stantec's Project Management Framework (PMF) practices, ensuring client requirements, scope/deliverables, risk, technical and commercial needs are achievable.

  • Proactive marketing and cross-selling (across business lines and disciplines) of company services to obtain new clients/commissions and develop industry relationships.

  • Leading project delivery by providing management skills to ensure the end products meet client and stakeholder expectations.

  • Assist in reviewing and negotiating contracts, and reviewing executed contracts to verify timeframes, milestones, procedures and budgets to achieve project outcomes.

  • Establish project plans (where required) including resourcing, finance, risk and quality in conjunction with the technical team, project Technical Leads/Project Engineers, Project Support personnel and Project Accounting to ensure all aspects of the project are planned prior to project execution.

  • Perform on technically complex projects and may act as a technical resource to other team members

  • Complying with project controls including, project scheduling to demonstrate delay and disruption, monitoring and reporting progress, cost and productivity, project cost forecasting and management of changes to the scope of work.

To be successful for this role you'll need:
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Project management, Construction management or relevant technical qualification is desirable.

  • Ideally you should have 7 years of experience.

  • Previous civil project management experience working in civil projects including stormwater/roads, land development and councils.

  • Previous success in delivering large projects; undertaking day to day project coordination, development and execution of projects plans and programming.

  • Ability to deliver and manage stakeholders in a complex environment, be accountable for client satisfaction by supporting the project team.

  • Experience in project programming and critical path analysis by implementing strategies which address program, delivery, design risks and ensure the most appropriate standards and requirements are developed and implemented.

  • Commercial acumen in managing resources and budgets.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven experience in time management and organisational skills including the ability to manage resources and delegate tasks effectively.
