Job summary

Johnson Controls in Melbourne seeks a Senior Project Manager - Building Management Systems (BMS) to lead the delivery of complex automation and integrated building solutions across major commercial and mission-critical projects.

You will oversee end-to-end delivery from design through commissioning and handover, managing budgets, timelines, and safety to meet the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, client engagement, and technical expertise in building controls.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Electrical or an Engineering degree.
• Experience delivering BMS/IBMS projects across complex sites.
• Strong stakeholder, budget, and schedule management.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems and building automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of BMS/IBMS projects from design to commissioning.
• Manage design, procurement, installation, testing, and handover.

• Lead project teams and subcontractors to achieve milestones.

• Prepare and maintain project quality and compliance documentation.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager - Building Management Systems (BMS) to join our Melbourne team and lead the delivery of complex automation and integrated building solutions across major commercial and mission-critical projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced BMS Project Manager, Project Engineer, Controls Engineer, or Building Automation specialist looking to take ownership of high-profile projects while working with market-leading technology and a globally recognised brand.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of BMS and Integrated Building Management System (IBMS) projects, from design and engineering through to commissioning, client handover, and project close-out.

Working closely with customers, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the successful delivery of BMS and IBMS projects from concept through to completion
• Manage design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and project documentation activities
• Drive project performance across scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety outcomes
• Build trusted relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders
• Lead project teams and subcontractors to achieve successful delivery milestones
• Oversee system integration, FATs, SATs, commissioning activities, and building optimisation
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards
• Manage project financials including forecasting, cost control, reporting, and commercial outcomes
• Prepare and maintain project quality and compliance documentation
• Identify opportunities to improve project execution, standardisation, and operational efficiency
• Champion a strong safety culture aligned with Johnson Controls' values and standards

What We're Looking For

We're interested in professionals who bring strong technical and project delivery experience within building automation, controls, HVAC, or smart building environments.

• Trade qualification in Electrical, HVAC, Mechanical Services, or an Engineering degree
• Strong understanding of building controls, automation architecture, and system design
• Experience managing project budgets, timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations
• Knowledge of HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handling systems, and plant optimisation
• Experience with commissioning, FATs, SATs, and system handovers
• Strong communication, customer engagement, and leadership skills
• Sound understanding of quality, compliance, and safety requirements

Highly Desirable

• Exposure to mission-critical environments such as data centres, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or advanced manufacturing
• Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, OPC, MQTT, and other industry communication protocols
• Understanding of IT networks, cybersecurity, and connected building technologies
• Experience with BIM, AutoCAD, Visio, and engineering documentation platforms
• Energy efficiency, smart buildings, or building performance optimisation experience
