The Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical will ensure the effective coordination and control of Mechanical and Piping Engineering Works for a designated Project through activities of technical, engineering, inspection, scheduling, planning, survey, procurement and quality control based on the Alkimos Seawater Alliance standards.

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible in assisting the Construction Manager to ensure the safe and successful completion of the project on schedule, within budget and to the specified quality.

The Project

The Alkimos desalinisation project includes the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant with first production in 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels, seawater intake system, a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, groundwater system, drinking water storage and pump system, supported by civil, electrical and bulk earthworks.

Key Accountabilities
  • Conduct regular site safety and environmental inspections, review method statements, manage permits, and ensure subcontractor compliance with safety standards.
  • Prepare work packages, issue RFQs, evaluate bids, and manage procurement risks and opportunities in line with project requirements.
  • Review and approve construction method statements, oversee temporary works, and drive process improvements and innovative solutions.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, manage critical path activities, allocate resources, and report progress to meet milestones.
  • Ensure compliance with technical submissions, QA processes, temporary works, and maintain accurate documentation and risk registers.
  • Utilize GIS and digital tools for planning, design review, and site coordination; promote technology adoption among teams.
  • Build and manage engineering teams, set goals, monitor performance, and support team wellbeing and accountability.
  • Ensure timely closure of Lots and NCRs, maintain ITPs, monitor costs against forecasts, and report variances for financial control.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 10 years experience
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and piping engineering principles, construction methods, and temporary works design.
  • Proven ability to manage project schedules, procurement processes, and cost forecasting within large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in digital engineering tools (GIS, 3D models, planning software) and ability to promote technology adoption.
  • Leadership and team management skills, including performance monitoring, goal setting, and fostering wellbeing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety, quality assurance, and environmental compliance in complex project environments.
