Job summary

Symal Infrastructure in Adelaide leads a major Battery Energy Storage System project two hours north of the city. You will drive engineering delivery, safety and commercial outcomes with ownership across planning, procurement and coordination.

The Senior Project Engineer role offers leadership of engineers onsite, mentorship for junior staff, and a focus on regional, renewable energy delivery with strong project uplifts and a flexible roster.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years' relevant construction experience.
• Experience across civil construction, infrastructure, renewables, utilities or major projects.
• Experience managing project engineering functions and supporting site delivery.
• Strong understanding of construction programs, procurement, subcontractor management and commercial processes.
• Strong stakeholder and client management skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and environmental performance.

Responsibilities

• Managing and coordinating project engineering activities from planning through to delivery.
• Leading and mentoring Project Engineers and Site Engineers.
• Working closely with Foremen, Supervisors and the Project Manager to achieve project objectives.
• Developing, monitoring and maintaining project programs.
• Managing procurement and subcontractor delivery to support the program.
• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
• Supporting variations, claims, extensions of time and contractual notices.
• Monitoring project costs, productivity and cost-to-complete.
• Supporting progress claims, forecasting and monthly project reporting.
• Maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.
• Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with project specifications and contractual requirements.
• Driving quality assurance and minimising rework.
• Taking an active leadership role in safety, environmental and quality performance.
• Supporting the development and performance of project engineering teams.
• Working collaboratively with the broader Symal Infrastructure business to achieve project outcomes.

Symal Infrastructure is expanding its Renewable Energy portfolio across Australia, and we are looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our delivery team on a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project approximately two hours north of Adelaide.

This is an opportunity to step into a senior project delivery role where you will have genuine ownership, work closely with experienced project leaders and contribute to the delivery of Australia's growing renewable energy infrastructure.

Importantly, this is not simply a six-month job. We are building a strong national renewables team and are looking for people who want to continue working across BESS, wind and other regional renewable energy projects as our pipeline grows.

About The Project

You will join the delivery team on a Battery Energy Storage System project approximately two hours north of Adelaide.

The project is approximately $2 million in value and is being delivered as a subcontractor to Genus, with an estimated duration of 6-7 months.

You will work alongside the Project Manager and broader Symal team, taking responsibility for the engineering, commercial and project delivery requirements while supporting site operations.

There is also the opportunity to transition onto future renewable projects as they become available.

About The Role

As Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to a high standard.

You will be responsible for:

• Managing and coordinating project engineering activities from planning through to delivery
• Leading and mentoring Project Engineers and Site Engineers
• Working closely with Foremen, Supervisors and the Project Manager to achieve project objectives

About You

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer who is technically strong, commercially aware and confident taking ownership of project delivery.

You will ideally have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Approximately 5+ years' relevant construction experience
• Strong experience working across civil construction, infrastructure, renewables, utilities or major projects
• Experience managing project engineering functions and supporting site delivery
• Strong understanding of construction programs, procurement, subcontractor management and commercial processes
• Strong stakeholder and client management skills
• A sound understanding of construction contracts and contractual administration
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and environmental performance
• Excellent communication, planning and problem-solving skills
• The ability to lead, mentor and develop junior engineering staff
• A genuine interest in renewable energy and regional project delivery

Experience across BESS, wind, transmission, utilities or other renewable energy projects will be highly regarded.

Knowledge of Expert Estimation and Jobpac is advantageous but not essential.
