Job summary

Spectrum Consultants is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join the delivery team on a greenfield Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) construction project in North West Queensland. This is a hands-on, site-based role supporting safe, compliant construction of tailings infrastructure through to handover.

You will work closely with the Project Manager - Tailings, the construction contractor, and the Engineer of Record to ensure the TSF is built in accordance with design intent, regulatory

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Mining, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Hands-on Tailings operations experience.
• Experience with TSF or dam construction projects.
• Project management experience in scheduling and cost control.
• Ability to read and apply engineering drawings and specs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day engineering oversight of TSF construction activities.
• Monitor tailings deposition planning and execution, ensuring alignment with operating and management plan and design intent.
• Oversee piping and pumping infrastructure installation, commissioning, and performance.
• Liaise with Engineer of Record on construction verification, NCRs, and change management.
• Support project controls including scheduling, cost tracking, and change management.
• Review and manage contractor deliverables, RFIs, ITPs, and construction quality records.
• Participate in site inspections and instrumentation review related to TSF performance.
• Contribute to constructability reviews, risk assessments, and lessons-learnt processes.
• Champion safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE requirements and regulations.
• Support handover documentation and transition from construction to operations.

Job description

Spectrum Consultants is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join the delivery team on a greenfield Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) construction project in North West Queensland. This is a hands‑on, site-based role supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient construction of tailings infrastructure through to operational handover. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager - Tailings, the construction contractor, and the Engineer of Record to ensure the TSF is built in accordance with design intent, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice.

Key responsibilities

Provide day-to-day engineering oversight of TSF construction activities, including embankment/wall construction, liner installation, and associated earthworks

Monitor and support tailings deposition planning and execution, ensuring alignment with the operating and management plan and design intent

Oversee the installation, commissioning, and ongoing performance of tailings pipeline and pumping infrastructure, including pipeline routing, pump station works, and slurry delivery systems

Liaise with the Engineer of Record and design team on construction verification, non‑conformances, and design change management

Support project controls activities including scheduling, progress reporting, cost tracking, and change management

Review and manage contractor deliverables, RFIs, ITPs, and construction quality records

Participate in site inspections, surveillance monitoring, and instrumentation review relevant to TSF performance

Contribute to constructability reviews, risk assessments, and lessons‑learnt processes

Champion a strong safety culture and ensure works are executed in compliance with site HSE requirements and relevant regulatory frameworks

Support handover documentation and the transition from construction to operations

About you

Degree qualification in Civil, Mining, or Mechanical Engineering

Strong working knowledge of tailings depositional practices and hands‑on experience in tailings operations

Sound understanding of piping and pumping systems relevant to tailings/slurry transport

Demonstrated experience working on TSF or dam construction projects, ideally in a project engineering capacity

Project management experience highly regarded, including exposure to scheduling, cost control, and contractor management

Strong understanding of construction quality processes (ITPs, NCRs, survey/as‑built verification)

Ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, construction, and operations teams

Willingness and ability to work FIFO on a 2 weeks on / 1 week off roster

Current driver's licence; relevant site safety inductions (or ability to obtain)

12-month fixed term contract with a genuine opportunity to shape a greenfield TSF construction program

Work alongside an experienced tailings and project delivery team on a technically significant piece of infrastructure
