Job summary

Austal Ships is seeking a Production Engineer (Fabrication) to provide hands-on engineering support within our shipbuilding production environment. You'll work with Fabrication Supervisors, Planners, Quality and Design Engineering to drive safe, efficient construction of naval and commercial vessels.

This role focuses on steel and aluminium fabrication, resolving production issues, optimising processes, and supporting continuous improvement across the fabrication value stream.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in shipbuilding or heavy fabrication.
• Experience with steel and aluminium fabrication.
• Knowledge of welding processes and production workflows.
• Ability to interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication and safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day engineering and technical support to fabrication teams during vessel construction.
• Review fabrication packages and drawings to ensure readiness for production.
• Act as SME for structural fabrication and assembly activities.
• Liaise with Design Engineering to resolve fabrication issues.
• Support welding, plate preparation, cutting, forming, assembly, and module construction.
