Job summary

SA Water is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to partner with stakeholders and provide expert process engineering advice for wastewater and recycled water treatment assets. You will influence strategy, safety, and performance while supporting design and implementation across projects.

Ideal candidates will have degree qualifications in Engineering, postgraduate wastewater treatment knowledge, and extensive process engineering experience in municipal systems.

Qualifications

• Degree qualifications in Engineering.
• Postgraduate qualifications in wastewater and recycled water treatment (highly regarded).
• Extensive experience in process engineering related to wastewater treatment, recycled water, biosolids management, and odour control.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across wastewater and recycled water treatment assets.
• Develop and maintain engineering design guidelines for capital projects.
• Support development of operational targets, processes, and standards for water quality risk management.
• Ensure public health, environmental, and safety considerations are integrated into solutions and designs.
• Drive innovation by identifying emerging wastewater treatment and water reuse technologies.
• Assist in long-term investment planning for wastewater assets considering growth and regulatory obligations.
• Lead development of long-term process strategies for wastewater and recycled water plants.
• Contribute input into process optimization initiatives to improve performance and reliability.

About the job

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will partner with stakeholders across the business to provide expert process engineering advice, undertake investigations, and support the design and implementation of wastewater treatment strategies. You will influence the future direction of wastewater and recycled water treatment assets while ensuring safety, operational excellence, and customer outcomes remain at the forefront.

About you

You are a technically capable and forward-thinking engineering professional who thrives on solving complex challenges and influencing strategic outcomes. With a proactive approach, strong planning and prioritisation skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results, you enjoy working collaboratively to drive continuous improvement and innovation. Extensive experience in municipal wastewater treatment will be highly regarded, particularly your ability to apply practical process engineering expertise to optimise treatment performance and support sustainable water management outcomes.

You will:

• Provide technical leadership and specialist process engineering expertise across wastewater and recycled water treatment assets.
• Develop and maintain engineering design guidelines that promote consistency, standardisation, and efficient delivery of capital projects.
• Support the development of operational targets, processes, and standards that manage water quality risks and improve business performance.
• Ensure public health, environmental, and safety considerations are incorporated into treatment solutions and infrastructure design.
• Drive innovation by identifying and implementing emerging wastewater treatment and water reuse technologies.
• Contribute to future investment planning for wastewater treatment assets, considering growth, performance requirements, regulatory obligations, and emerging challenges.
• Lead the development of long-term process strategies for wastewater and recycled water treatment plants.
• Provide expert input into process optimisation initiatives to improve treatment performance, efficiency, and reliability.

Your success in this role will come from:

• Degree qualifications in Engineering.
• Postgraduate qualifications in wastewater and recycled water treatment (highly regarded).
• Extensive experience in process engineering related to wastewater treatment, recycled water, biosolids management, and odour control.
• Strong understanding of wastewater conveyance, treatment processes, and waste disposal systems.
• Experience providing technical leadership and influencing multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to apply innovative technologies and research to practical engineering solutions.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
