Job summary

Visy Pulp & Paper in Tumut is seeking a senior Chemical Process Engineer to optimise the Chemical Recovery Plant. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will own recovery process performance across boilers, evaporators and utilities, collaborating with operations, maintenance and projects teams to deliver reliability, efficiency and measurable results in a high-investment facility.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar.
• 8+ years' experience in process engineering within heavy industry or manufacturing.
• Strong experience in chemical recovery, utilities, evaporator, boiler, energy, sugar, pulp and paper, or similar continuous process environments.
• Hands-on experience with recovery boilers, power boilers, evaporators, steam generation or related large-scale equipment.
• Strong process troubleshooting, optimisation and continuous improvement capability.
• Experience balancing production, reliability, cost and environmental objectives.
• Ability to lead initiatives and influence outcomes across multiple stakeholder groups.
• Proactive, self-driven approach with a focus on safety, operational excellence and results.
• Strong communication skills with technical and operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and optimise chemical recovery plant performance focusing on safety, reliability, efficiency and cost.
• Investigate process issues and lead root cause analysis to improve plant stability and performance.
• Support optimisation of energy, steam, water and chemical balances across the site.
• Lead operational trials, process changes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support and deliver capital projects relating to chemical recovery and utilities systems.
• Partner with operations and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and operating performance.
• Drive best practice operating standards and process control improvements.
