Job summary

Pet Circle is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to build and scale its cloud platform on Google Cloud Platform. You will own IaC, CI/CD, observability, and security across engineering squads, enabling rapid, reliable delivery of features.

You will collaborate with Staff Engineers and Tech Leads, embed with squads, and focus on cost efficiency, security, and disaster recovery while working in a hybrid Sydney environment.

Qualifications

• Deep, hands-on Google Cloud Platform experience.
• Strong with Cloudflare (heavy usage in this role).
• Terraform (Pulumi transferable) in production environments.
• CI/CD pipelines deployed by real teams; GitHub Actions (GitLab transferable).
• Docker experience; Kubernetes is optional.
• Knowledge of Python preferred.
• Security and disaster recovery with least-privilege mindset; JumpCloud and CrowdStrike a plus.
• An experienced engineer who builds the platform, not just runs tools.
• Lean team mindset; broad ownership across the platform.
• Clear communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

The role

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll build the cloud infrastructure, tooling and CI/CD pipelines that Pet Circle's engineering squads ship on, so they can deliver at speed on a platform they can trust. This is a building role, not a run-and-maintain one: you'll design for scale on Google Cloud Platform, automate what used to be manual, and own your area broadly. You’ll report to the Director of Technical Operations while partnering closely with the engineering squads, Staff Engineers and Tech Leads who build the product.

What you’ll be working on

Build Pet Circle's cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, designing for scale, reliability and security

Drive infrastructure-as-code with Terraform (Pulumi is transferable), so the environment is reproducible and auditable

Build, maintain and speed up the CI/CD pipelines the engineering squads deploy through

Containerise and run services with Docker

Own observability, monitoring, alerting and logging, so issues are understood before they reach customers

Embed with the engineering squads, understand their friction points, and build a platform roadmap that makes shipping easier

Strengthen Pet Circle's security and disaster recovery, security assessments, vulnerability remediation, identity and access (Google Identity Platform, JumpCloud or similar), and tested recovery objectives

Identify high-risk legacy components and plan their removal

Get our CI/CD, observability and security ready for the AI features going into the product

Support cloud cost efficiency, right-sizing and optimising GCP spend

Respond to production incidents and lead the follow-up, so the same problem doesn't happen twice

What we’re looking for

Deep, hands-on Google Cloud Platform experience, this is a must

Strong with Cloudflare, it's used heavily here, so little or no exposure is a real gap

You're already using AI in how you work and keen to do more, whether that's writing infrastructure code, debugging pipelines, analysing logs or generating runbooks.

Infrastructure-as-code in production with Terraform (Pulumi is transferable), including the messy parts like state management

CI/CD pipelines real teams deploy through, GitHub Actions (GitLab is transferable)

Hands-on with Docker (Kubernetes is fine but not required, we don't lean on it)

Knowledge of Python is preferred

You've built and improved security and disaster recovery, not just run tools, and least-privilege thinking comes naturally (JumpCloud and CrowdStrike experience is a plus)

An experienced engineer who's seen things go wrong and learned by doing, and who's energised by building the platform, not just running it

Comfortable in a lean team, owning broadly rather than specialising narrowly

You communicate clearly with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders, and partner well across teams

This is a Sydney-based role. Our office sits on top of Wynyard station, it's pet-friendly (of course), and we work flexibly, a mix of office and home. We believe spending time together in person is important for building strong relationships, collaborating effectively, moving quickly as a team, and having fun!
