Job summary

SA Health in Adelaide is seeking a Senior Physiotherapist for Aged Care & Gen Med to lead and supervise physiotherapy teams across General Medicine and aged care wards. The role involves complex patient assessments, workload management, and development of efficient service processes.

The post requires a degree with registration, plus demonstrated experience in aged care, falls prevention, and hospital discharge planning. Salary is AUD 112,139–120,284 p.a.

Qualifications

  • A degree or other qualification which entitles registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise staff, prioritise workloads for self and others.
  • Physical strength, flexibility and endurance sufficient for manual handling requirements of the Physiotherapy Work Unit.
  • Proven experience in basic computing skills, including email and word processing.
  • Experience as a senior clinician in aged care and general medicine.
  • Experience with implementation of falls prevention strategies.
  • Experience with developing programs to reduce risk of functional decline during hospitalisation.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake complex patient assessments, intervention and review as a specialist practitioner in the work area and assisting junior staff with complex patient/clinical issues.
  • Having responsibility for workload allocation across the units to AHP2, AHP1 and AHA staff and students rostered to the General Medical team
  • Developing and managing effective and efficient processes for service provision that are responsive to changing organisational priorities in short time frames
  • Supporting staff to manage complex clinical caseload responsibilities. These include assessment and management of complex patients, acute rehabilitation and discharge planning. Where appropriate liaison with community services, provision of education, information and liaison with family/carers/significant others will be undertaken to achieve patient goals.
  • Actively involving participation of patients and their families/ carers in their assessment and treatment, to enable them to achieve the optimal level of independence
  • Supervising and providing education to AHP2, AHP1, AHA staff and students on placement with respect to assessment and treatment procedures to ensure high quality and timely service delivery
  • Actively participating and contributing to strategic planning meetings in the Physiotherapy department, and other divisions to ensure effective communication and the development of appropriate services.

The Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) is looking for a Senior Physiotherapist to bring clinical depth and genuine commitment to older Australians and general medicine patients across our General Medicine wards.

About the role

This role is responsible for supervision, assessment and workload allocation for AHP1/2 Physiotherapists and AHA2 Assistant staff rostered across all general medical units and aged care, through coordinating patient focussed work processes that facilitate flow for patients admitted under General Medical Units.
