Job description

We are partnering with a specialised consultancy seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support upcoming system implementation and advisory work. This role suits someone with deep technical payroll expertise, strong operational capability, and the ability to support organisations through periods of change.

You will bring proven experience in end-to-end payroll management, team leadership and exposure to large-scale payroll or HRIS implementations. A strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, award interpretation and compliance frameworks will be essential, as you will play a key role in helping organisations navigate complex payroll transformations while maintaining accuracy, governance and stability.

Working closely with internal consultants and client stakeholders, you will review current processes, support system and process changes, and produce clear deliverables such as documentation, findings, recommendations and compliance artefacts. This position requires someone who can work autonomously, interpret complex information quickly and communicate outcomes clearly and professionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide senior-level payroll operational expertise across projects
  • Support system implementation activities, process reviews and optimisation
  • Lead or contribute to compliance assessments and audit readiness
  • Analyse information and translate into structured deliverables
  • Liaise with client stakeholders to gather requirements and provide guidance
  • Contribute to project documentation, process maps and recommendations
Selection Criteria
  • 7+ years' experience in senior payroll operations
  • Exposure to Payroll or HRIS system projects (implementation, optimisation or UAT)
  • Strong understanding of compliance, legislation and award interpretation
  • Confident communicator who can work independently
  • Ability to synthesise information and present findings clearly
  • Someone proactive, adaptable and comfortable in a consulting environment
