Job summary

The Australian War Memorial is seeking a Senior Objects Conservator to lead specialist assessment, analysis, treatment and preservation of the National Collection. The role drives survey, remedial treatment, preventive conservation and documentation for diverse objects and leads the New Acquisitions Conservator work related to the freezer program and related tasks.

The position supervises staff, contractors and volunteers, participates in management activities and supports exhibitions and loans

Responsibilities

• Lead the conservation laboratory daily operations and oversee conservation programs.
• Supervise conservation staff, contractors, volunteers and interns; support training and development.
• Assess, document and treat a wide range of objects to determine condition and deterioration processes.
• Maintain records of conservation work in the Collection Management System.
• Identify and manage risks to staff and collection in line with procedures and plans.
• Collaborate with other conservation labs and sections for exhibitions, loans and storage/display practices.
• Provide conservation advice to sections and the wider community.
