Job summary

Northern Star is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer for our Kalgoorlie Operations, Kanowna Belle Underground Mine. The role leads the Underground Technical Services team, overseeing scheduling, drill and blast, and graduate engineers.

The position is offered on an 8/6 roster (12-hour days), residential in Kalgoorlie-Boulder or FIFO from Perth, reporting to the Underground Manager. Strong leadership and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years UG hard rock mining experience.
• Deswik CAD and Scheduler packages experience; advanced MS Office.
• Experience with mining contractors; SL Open Stoping and Back Filling knowledge.
• Underground Mine Rescue experience; Power BI experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate daily mining activities to achieve production targets.
• Lead and mentor Drill & Blast and Ventilation Engineers.
• Support in Deputy Underground Manager role when required.
• Prepare three-month forecasts with the planning team.

We are seeking a strongSenior Mining Engineer to join our high performing Underground Technical Services team at our Kalgoorlie Operations at the Kanowna Belle Underground Mine . This opportunity is offered on 8/6 roster, 12-hour days, either residentially based in Kalgoorlie-Boulder – the Heart of the Goldfields, or Fly-in Fly-out (FIFO) ex Perth.

Reporting to the Underground Manager, the primary role is for the safe management and delivery of all engineering requirements within the Mining Engineering team. This challenging and dynamic role will enable an experienced senior mining engineer to lead a technical team of scheduling, project, drill and blast and graduate engineers, driving safe production from the operational team. With the additional functionality of exposure to Alternate Underground Manager if the candidate desires, this role paves the way to those looking for their next career step.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Manage and coordinate daily mining activities to ensure the production physicals, as directed by the relevant schedules, are achieved.
• Lead and mentor team of Drill & Blast and Ventilation Engineers.
• In absence of Underground Manager, may be required to fill the role of Deputy Underground Manager.
• Prepare the three-month forecast in consultation with the Underground Manager, Drill and Blast Engineers, Short Term Planning Engineers, Project Manager and Mine Foreman as a minimum.
• Each Month review and communicate any changes (proposed or accepted) to the three-month forecast at the Monthly Mine Planning meeting (rolling three-month plan).
• Ensure the completion of mine development and stoping designs in a timely manner to comply with the weekly targets as determined by the three-month forecast.
• Review and approve production drilling and charging plans.
• Responsibility for the development of functional work plans for the Mining Department ensuring production and strategic requirements are met.
• Responsibility for the achievement of the plans and goals through ongoing monitoring of progress.
• Conceptualise, initiate, present and implement specific improvement projects including any specific infrastructure projects required for productivity and profitability gains by the mine.
• Coordinate and manage the stope reconciliation process generating and keeping the required internal reporting records such as end of month & end of stope reconciliations.
• Coordinate and manage the end of week and month summaries and reports and any other measures that may be required to enable good management of the mine and the mining contract.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

Experience: Minimum of 5 years UG hard rock mining experience. Experience using Deswik CAD and Scheduler packages. Advanced Microsoft Office skills. Experience working with a mining contractor. Experience in a mine that utilises Sub Level Open Stoping and Back Filling. Underground Mine Rescue Experience. Experience using Power BI.

Qualifications : Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering. Current Unencumbered Western Australian "C" Class Drivers Licence. First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency.
