Job description
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Robotic Automation)

Design it. Build it. Touch it. Join ASA and shape the future of Australian manufacturing with robotics.

Automated Solutions Australia (ASA) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop robotic automation solutions across industries including manufacturing, aerospace, defence, and supply chain.

About ASA

Why do we do what we do? Simple, to bring world class flexible automation to Australian businesses, allowing them to compete on the global market. We’re proud to invest in local innovation and talent, and we’re committed to reshaping the future of homegrown manufacturing. Joining ASA means stepping into a culture built on trust, respect, and shared purpose, where you’ll work alongside colleagues who push boundaries, support each other, and thrive on teamwork.

At ASA, we’re proud to work with FANUC robots, the gold standard in industrial automation worldwide and it’s exciting to bring that level of technology into Australian businesses right from our Melbourne office. But what really makes the difference is how we use it; our team takes that technology and adds creativity, care, and dedication to design solutions that help our customers upscale and grow. Every project starts with listening to what matters most to them, and our goal is always clear: build automation that’s practical, robust, and effective, while creating partnerships that last well beyond delivery.

The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer at ASA, you’ll be hands on from concept through to delivery, you’ll be involved in every stage of the project designing, building, and supporting assembly and installations as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Develop concepts and mechanical designs, including 3D models, FEA analysis, and detailed drawings
  • Create robot cell simulations and optimise layouts for efficiency and safety
  • Interface machinery with robotic systems to deliver seamless automation
  • Collaborate with the install team to plan and execute installations
  • Conduct functional safety assessments and risk analyses
  • Prepare clear documentation to support each stage of delivery

This is a role where you’ll not only apply your technical skills but also grow alongside a team that values creativity, collaboration, and customer impact.

About you

You’re the kind of engineer who wants to see your ideas come to life beyond the screen and into real world solutions. Most days you’ll be deep in SolidWorks, modelling, problem solving, and refining designs, with opportunities to support assembly or installations and watch your work come to life. That mix of design and real world impact excites you, because you know the satisfaction comes from building something that works.

You’re detail oriented, a clear communicator, and thrive on learning new things. You know your way around CAD, pneumatics, hydraulics, and servo systems. Experience with robotic automation, in any application, from pick and place to welding, materials handling, or beyond, will be highly valued. But more than ticking boxes, you share our values: creativity, collaboration, and a focus on customer success.

With clients located across Australia, interstate travel may be required. You’ll embrace the opportunity to work closely with them, knowing every project is a chance to strengthen local manufacturing and build partnerships that last.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or Robotics
  • A resident of Australia
  • Australian Driver's licence

If this sounds like you, please apply by providing a CV and Cover letter addressed to the General Manager. Step into a role where your ideas don’t just stay on paper; they move, build, and transform the future of Australian manufacturing, with you at the centre of it all.

Application Process

Your application will include the following questions:

  • Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?
  • How many years' experience do you have as a mechanical engineer?
  • Have you completed a qualification in mechanical engineering?
  • Do you have a current Australian driver's licence?
