Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) seeks a senior leader to oversee operations and strategy for Australia’s world-class synchrotron facility in Clayton. You will guide the Accelerator Science and Operations teams, safety, quality and risk, and align business plans with strategic goals.

Qualifications

• Tertiary Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline with a post-graduate business qualification.
• Extensive and well-rounded leadership across multiple stakeholder groups.
• Senior operational/administration experience in a specialist facility (3+ years).
• Knowledge of synchrotron science from a global perspective.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic advice and operational leadership to the Director and Synchrotron Management Team.
• Lead the Accelerator Science, Accelerator Operations, Safety, Quality and Risk functions and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation meeting performance targets and stakeholder commitments.
• Develop and implement the annual Business Plan, Asset Management Plan, Operating Budget and Schedule.
• Contribute to Capital Plan and own/sponsor capital projects within Operations.

About the Opportunity

The role provides excellent operational outcomes for the Australian Synchrotron including day to day operational advice and support to the Director and assistance with key initiatives to achieve the strategic goals of the facility. The role oversees interactions with ANSTO's enabling functions and the execution of annual operations plans and management of related budgets. The role provides high level leadership to the Accelerator Science, Accelerator Operations, Safety, Quality and Risk Management Groups and has dotted line responsibilities for IT services, the User Office, Security, Stores and the Synchrotron Café. The role is part of the Australian Synchrotron Management Team.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide strategic advice and operational leadership to the Director, the Synchrotron Management Team, contributing to the development and execution of the facility's strategic priorities and ensuring alignment between the long-term objectives of ANSTO and the Australian Synchrotron
• Lead the Accelerator Science, Accelerator Operations, Safety, Quality and Risk functions, fostering a high-performance culture through effective leadership, capability development, succession planning and continuous improvement.
• Provide leadership and oversight to ensure excellence in the safe reliable and efficient operation of the Australian Synchrotron, maintaining world-class performance standards and delivering organisational objectives, business plan outcomes, key performance targets and stakeholder commitments.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the annual Business Plan, Asset Management Plan, Operating Budget, and Operating Schedule for the Australian Synchrotron.
• Contribute to the Australian Synchrotron Capital Plan and adopt the Business Owner and/or Sponsor role for capital projects that fall within the Operations portfolio.
• Provide leadership and commitment to achieving excellence by encouraging continuous learning, knowledge sharing and fostering an environment for creativity and innovation, to ensure that the facility stays at a world-class or world-leading standard.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Tertiary Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline with a post-graduate business qualification.
• Extensive and well-rounded, high-level leadership skills with a focus on leading multiple stakeholder groups
• High-level knowledge and experience in the senior operational and administration functions of a specialist facility with at least 3+ years of management experience across Engineering, IT or Corporate Services functions.
• Knowledge and understanding of the content and interactions in synchrotron science from a global perspective.
• Substantial project or operational management experience
• High level strategic thinking and the ability to provide appropriate and consistent operational advice to senior managers.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and the capacity to contribute to and drive continuous improvement efforts.
• Personal commitment to safety practices.
• Demonstrated high level communication, networking and influencing and relationship building skills
