Job summary

In this role, you'll:

Be part of TfNSW’s Legal and Governance branch - one of the largest in-house government legal teams in NSW, with close to 100 lawyers across four specialist groups. These roles sit within the Commercial, Technology and Property legal team and report to the Director, Legal Commercial, Technology & Property.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the transition of the NSW bus fleet to electric buses as part of Transport for NSW’s New Electric Bus Project. You will be focussed on advising, drafting, negotiating and amending a complex ecosystem of project and commercial contracts relating to fleet, technology, construction and goods and services.

You will also lead the drafting and negotiation of complex legal documents, provide clear statutory and contractual interpretation, and represent the organisation in dispute resolution, court and tribunal matters in line with the Model Litigant Policy.

This contract position for up to 23 months is governed by our hybrid working model, which forms part of the organisation’s Flexible Working Arrangements and associated procedures. This includes a combination of required onsite attendance at our Elizabeth Street office in Sydney CBD and approved remote working.

You’ll possess a minimum of five years relevant legal experience and hold an unrestricted practising certificate.

You’ll have a proven track record working on high value, complex project and/or commercial contracts either from within an in-house legal function of a large, complex organisation, or in private practice providing strategic level advice across a diverse client base including public sector / government.

You model the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct, and you are confident leading and supervising junior lawyers. You act as a key point of contact for clients and are able to step in for senior team members when required.

You’ll have the ability to communicate and influence effectively and inspire confidence in clients as they grapple with high profile and often challenging issues.

You can lead and manage challenging negotiations, draft complex contracts and have strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to make sound decisions within a legal context.
