About APNA

The Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) is the peak and professional body for nurses working in primary health care. APNA champions the role of primary health care nurses; to advance professional recognition, ensure workforce sustainability, nurture leadership in health, and optimise the role of nurses in person‑centred care.

About the role

  • The role leads a team of communications and marketing professionals to ensures clear, consistent and strategic communication and marketing across all APNA streams. The position oversees campaigns, media engagement, brand management, content development and ensures APNA speaks with one coherent voice.
  • The role is hybrid based in Melbourne (APNA’s head office is in the CBD).
  • Salary range of $115,000 to $125,000 annually (before superannuation).

Responsibilities include

  • Manage and lead a team of communications and marketing professionals, ensuring a coordinated approach across multiple channels;
  • Service and support multiple units across APNA, including managing varying workflows and coordinating across multiple projects;
  • Proactively pitch or supervise pitching to national media to support APNA's advocacy, and manage media requests and support the CEO and President with public messaging;
  • Lead the development and delivery of APNA’s marketing strategy in line with organisational priorities;
  • Oversee the production of high-quality content for members, partners and the public including newsletters, web, social media, publications and announcements;
  • Oversee APNA’s website, social media and digital platforms to ensure a consistent and engaging presence;

Essential skills, qualifications and experience

  • Experience leading a communications and marketing team, including building and maintaining team culture in a distributed team;
  • Ability to work across multiple teams, build productive relationships and support a One-APNA approach.
  • Experience leading integrated marketing and communications with strong skills in content, digital, brand and campaign delivery;
  • Ability to translate organisational strategy into effective messaging and member-focused communication;
  • Experience managing digital platforms, social media and analytics to strengthen engagement and awareness;

Desirable skills, qualifications and experience

  • Experience pitching successfully to the press gallery and other national media;
