Job summary

Paxus - Technology + Digital Talent on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, is seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join a large regional public-sector finance team. You will partner with senior leaders, provide trusted financial advice and influence strategic financial decision-making across the organisation.

You will lead budgeting, monthly reporting and business analysis, with potential responsibility across operating and capital budgets, long-term modelling and costing analysis, depending on focus.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years' experience in a Management Accountant role within a large organisation.
• Experience preparing financial reports under relevant accounting standards.
• Strong capability in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and providing high-level financial advice.
• Experience with integrated financial systems, databases and advanced spreadsheet tools.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and contribute to the annual budgeting and budget review process, including submissions for senior leadership.
• Provide high-level financial advice on budget allocations, financial performance, job costing and long-term financial modelling.
• Produce and analyse monthly financial performance reports, identifying trends, variances and opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with business areas to understand operations, financial requirements and performance drivers.
• Provide accounting and business analysis support across directorates, branches and management teams.
• Develop and maintain processes to monitor financial performance of operational and capital projects.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of financial policies, procedures and processes.

Are you an experienced Management Accountant looking for an opportunity where your financial expertise can make a meaningful difference to a growing regional community?

We are seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join a high-performing finance team within a large and complex public-sector organisation. This is an opportunity to step into a strategic finance role where you’ll work closely with senior leaders, provide trusted financial advice, and help shape sound financial decision-making across a diverse organisation.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Management Accountant, you will play a key role in financial planning, budgeting, reporting and business analysis, partnering with stakeholders to support effective financial management and organisational performance.

Depending on your area of focus, the role may have responsibility across operating budgets, capital budgets, long-term financial modelling and costing analysis — or a combination of these areas.

You’ll work closely with management and finance leadership to provide meaningful insights, challenge assumptions and translate financial information into practical business decisions.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced finance professional who can combine strong technical accounting capability with commercial thinking, stakeholder management and business partnering skills.

You’ll ideally bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years' experience in a Management Accountant role within a large organisation.
• Demonstrated experience preparing financial reports in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
• Strong capability in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and providing high-level financial advice.
• Experience working with integrated financial systems, databases and advanced spreadsheet applications.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to influence, consult and build strong working relationships.
• A current C class driver's licence.

Membership of a relevant professional accounting association will be highly regarded.
