Bendigo Bank is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Group Legal division, providing expert financial services regulatory advice in a fast-paced environment. You’ll partner with senior leaders, advise on major projects, and drive pragmatic risk management while aligning with the bank’s strategic objectives.

Based in Melbourne, Adelaide, or Bendigo with a flexible hybrid model and local attendance as needed; you’ll influence policy and support regulatory responses across the business.

Our Group Legal division provides legal advice and support to the Bank’s business units, senior leaders, and executives on a broad variety of legal issues. We are looking for an accomplished Senior Legal Counsel to join the team full time.

Reporting into the Head of Group Legal, you’ll partner closely with the business as a trusted legal advisor to support strategic initiatives in a fast-paced and regulated environment. You’ll also have the opportunity to assist with overall legal needs for major projects and transactions, such as regulatory changes and responses to identified risk exposures.

We’re seeking a senior level lawyer with demonstrated experience in Financial Services Regulation (compliance and/or enforcement), to deliver top-tier legal advice and drive pragmatic, commercial solutions while proactively managing risk.

This role can be based in Melbourne, Adelaide, or Bendigo. What you’ll bring to the role

• A legal qualification and admission to practice in Australia
• Demonstrated previous experience in a similar role from within the Banking and Financial Services sector (private practice or in-house)
• Highly developed relationship skills, able to build trust and confidence with senior executives and business partners
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Strong technical analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret and explain complex legislation and to plan and implement policy and risk management strategies considering legislative and regulatory changes
