Job description

Are you ready for a senior in-house legal role where your advice is trusted, your judgement shapes decisions and your work has visible impact across a distinctive, commercially focused organisation?

Land Services SA is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join a high-performing legal team supporting an enterprise with an essential public purpose, a strong commercial mandate and continued growth momentum, backed by shareholders including Macquarie Group and PSP.

As a leading provider of land registry, property information, valuation and digital transformation services, Land Services SA connects customers to property data, supports trusted property transactions and helps unlock commercial opportunities across South Australia and Western Australia.

This is an opportunity to move beyond transactional advice and become a trusted partner to senior leaders and business teams. Working closely with the General Counsel and Company Secretary, you will contribute to meaningful legal, commercial and governance outcomes across both Land Services SA and Land Services WA.

Why this role?

The role offers rare breadth for a senior lawyer who enjoys variety, complexity and the chance to see their advice translate into real business outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to:

work on matters that are commercially significant and connected to essential public-facing services;

advise across a broad and evolving business with operations and obligations spanning South Australia and Western Australia;

partner directly with executives, senior managers and multidisciplinary teams;

build your commercial, governance and leadership capability through mentoring, exposure and meaningful responsibility;

contribute to governance, compliance frameworks and Board reporting;

join a collaborative One Team culture where practical advice, trusted relationships and high-quality outcomes are valued.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, you will provide practical, timely and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of matters. Your work will include drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, advising on legal and regulatory obligations, supporting concession and commercial arrangements, managing external legal providers, and assisting with dispute resolution and litigation matters.

You will be trusted to work through complexity, influence outcomes and provide advice that is legally sound, commercially sensible and easy for the business to act on.

About you

You will be a confident and collaborative legal professional with a strong foundation in commercial law, sound judgement and the ability to translate complexity into clear, practical advice for lawyers and non-lawyers alike.

To be successful, you will ideally bring:

a Bachelor of Laws and a current unrestricted South Australian practising certificate;

approximately eight or more years’ post-admission experience in private practice, in-house legal practice or a corporate legal environment;

strong experience in front-end corporate and commercial matters, including drafting, interpreting, negotiating and advising on contracts;

the ability to identify both legal and commercial issues and provide clear, practical advice;

strong analytical, negotiation and stakeholder management skills;

sound judgement, discretion and professional integrity;

the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality advice in a timely manner;

a collaborative style and the ability to build credibility as a trusted advisor.

Why join Land Services SA?

At Land Services SA, you will be part of an exceptional organisation that blends public trust with commercial discipline, innovation and service excellence. You will gain exposure across legal, operations, technology, data, valuation, commercial and corporate services, giving you a broader view of the business than many in-house legal roles can offer.

This role is a genuine opportunity to broaden your influence, enhance your commercial judgement and grow your profile in an organisation where legal advice is valued as a practical enabler of strong business outcomes.

If you are looking for a senior in-house role with breadth, purpose, complexity and genuine visibility, we would welcome your application.
