Principal Specialty Supervisor

Join a visionary and collaborative academic community dedicated to shaping the next generation of medical practitioners.

As Principal Specialty Supervisor, you will play a pivotal leadership role within UQ's Doctor of Medicine program, providing specialty-specific educational leadership across clinical learning environments while fostering excellence in teaching, mentorship, and clinical engagement.

Working closely with the Mayne Academy, MD Curriculum & Assessment team, and a network of hospital and community-based clinicians, you will help create meaningful learning experiences that inspire, challenge and support future doctors to thrive in an increasingly complex healthcare landscape.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished clinician-educator to influence medical education at scale while contributing to a culture of collaboration, innovation and positive change.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Teaching: Provide specialty-specific leadership in clinical education across the MD program, deliver high-quality learning experiences and assessments, support clinical supervisors and colleagues, mentor students, act as an educational advisor, and contribute to curriculum enhancement and continuous improvement of teaching and assessment practices.
  • Research: Maintain a strong clinical research profile through high-quality publications and scholarly outputs, contribute to competitive research funding applications, lead or support research projects, and apply best-practice research methodologies to advance clinical knowledge and practice.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Higher Degree by Research students and specialty trainees, foster researcher capability and professional growth, provide coaching and performance feedback, lead responsible research practices, facilitate engagement opportunities, and effectively manage staff throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate leadership through mentoring and collaboration, support staff wellbeing, contribute to committees and administrative activities, build strategic partnerships with healthcare, industry and professional stakeholders, strengthen community engagement, and uphold UQ's values and standards.

This is a teaching focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ's Criteria for Academic Performance.

About You:
  • Medical qualification with eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia and a specialist qualification recognised by an Australian specialist college.
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of specialist clinical expertise, academic achievement and professional standing.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical teaching, with evidence of significant contributions to undergraduate, postgraduate and/or professional-entry medical education.
  • Established expertise within your specialty area, including experience leading innovation, educational improvement and the adoption of contemporary clinical practices.
  • Strong track record of scholarly activity and/or clinical research, including publications, conference presentations and engagement with evidence-based practice.
  • Proven ability to mentor and supervise students, trainees and clinical colleagues, with a collaborative approach to leadership, stakeholder engagement and building professional partnerships.
About UQ:
