The Role

Reporting directly to the Executive Leader Delivery and Performance, the Senior Leader People, Governance and Safety will see you leading a team that enables the organisation's leaders and employees to achieve strategic priorities, work productively and safely, act in alignment with organisational values, and be fairly recognised and developed for their contributions. It is a role that will initially focus on implementing governance and HR partnership frameworks as well as completion of policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspire, engage, and develop employees, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Develop and oversee budgets and manage procurement processes within authorisations and policy requirements.
  • Provide leadership to the Legal, Safety, Governance and People & Culture teams to support delivery of their strategic and annual objectives.
  • Ensure safety, risk management, and workplace laws are compliant in all facets of the organisation.
  • Oversee the development and testing of emergency management and business continuity plans
  • Encouraging a culture of proactivity and innovation in Human Resources, Governance and Safety.
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of high-quality workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, career development, wellbeing programs, performance management and Industrial Relations.
  • Oversee statutory reporting, including the Annual Report, along with managing Council's internal audit program.
  • Provide strategic advice to Councillors and the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams on governance, integrity, and compliance matters.
  • Develop and maintain frameworks for data integrity, information management, and digital governance

About You

As a leader, you will be proactive, innovative and a strong communicator. You'll bring a collaborative, solutions-focused approach to governance, people, and safety. Whilst a background in local government is not essential, you'll need to interpret and apply legislation, policy and governance frameworks. Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and deliver outcomes across complex organisational environments.

It is a requirement for this role that you have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and broad knowledge and experience across people and culture, governance, risk management and workplace health and safety.
