Job description

Perth, Western Australia 6000, Australia

Full-time Contract Mid-level Senior

Description
  • 12-month fixed-term opportunity
  • Make a meaningful difference for survivors

The National Redress Scheme and the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme are entering their final stages, and there is urgent work to do. Before applications close, Knowmore is focused on helping as many survivors as possible understand their options, access legal advice and make informed decisions about applying for redress.

We are looking for Lawyers who want to use their legal skills in a role with real purpose. In this 12-month fixed-term position, you will support people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse and Stolen Generations survivors to navigate sensitive, complex and deeply personal legal issues with care, respect and dignity.

About Knowmore

Knowmore is a free, independent and confidential legal service. Our work is trauma-informed, culturally safe and survivor-centred. We recognise that every person’s experience is different, and we are committed to providing advice and support in a way that is respectful, empowering and responsive to each client’s needs.

You will be part of a supportive and friendly team environment where collaboration, learning and wellbeing matter. We value people who bring empathy, sound judgement, cultural humility and a commitment to social justice.

About the Role

As a Senior Lawyer at Knowmore, you will provide high quality legal information, advice and representation to clients considering or progressing applications under redress schemes. You will manage a significant caseload, including more complex matters, and work closely with clients to help them understand their options and navigate sensitive legal issues with care, respect and dignity.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across legal, social work, financial counselling and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement teams to ensure clients receive holistic and culturally safe support. You will also contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Knowmore’s legal services, including mentoring and professionally supporting other lawyers and contributing to law reform, community legal education and other engagement activities.

This is a role for someone who wants to use their legal skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of survivors, while also contributing their experience and expertise to a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

About you

We are seeking a Senior Lawyer who is compassionate, practical and committed to working in a trauma-informed and culturally safe way. You will bring strong legal skills, sound judgement and experience managing a significant caseload, including complex matters, together with a thoughtful approach to working with people who may be experiencing distress, grief or trauma.

You will be confident providing professional support and mentoring to other lawyers and contributing to a collaborative team environment. Experience in redress, personal injury, human rights, administrative law, community legal services, First Nations justice issues or working with people who have experienced trauma will be highly regarded. Most importantly, you will share Knowmore’s commitment to access to justice and respectful, survivor-centred practice.

  • Use your legal skills to support survivors at a critical time.
  • Work in a trauma-informed, culturally safe and values-led organisation.
  • Be part of a supportive, friendly and collaborative team.
  • Contribute to work that has a direct and lasting impact in people’s lives.
  • Take on a purposeful 12-month fixed-term role with clear community benefit.

We recognise and value the strength that diversity brings to our work. We strongly encourage applications from individuals of all ages with diverse lived experiences and backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from multicultural, multifaith and linguistically diverse communities, members of the LGBTQIA+ community and people with disability. Your unique perspective and voice are not only welcome—they are essential to the work we do.
