Job summary

Think Intellect Consulting Pty Ltd – Sydney CBD NSW is seeking a Java Engineer for a 6-month rolling contract on a daily rate. Hybrid work 2-3 days in office, supporting a major financial client with scalable, secure applications built in Java, Spring and Spring Boot.

You will contribute to greenfield work and modernization of legacy systems, collaborating with DevOps and QA, following Agile/Scrum practices and embracing event-driven microservices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on Java experience (Java 11+).
• Strong Spring Framework experience (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data).
• Experience with Event-Driven Architecture and messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Familiar with RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Exposure to CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

Role overview :

We are seeking a highly skilledJava Engineerto join our team in support of a major financial client. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in building scalable, secure, and high-performance applications usingJava,SpringandSpring Bootframeworks. Familiarity withEvent-Driven Architecture (EDA)andAgile development methodologiesis essential.

You will be working on mission-critical systems that support financial operations, contributing to both greenfield development and modernization of legacy systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver new features.

• Implement and advocate for Event-Driven Architecture and microservices-based solutions.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to iterative software delivery.

• Write clean, scalable, and testable code following best practices and coding standards.

• Troubleshoot, debug, and enhance existing systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

• Work closely with DevOps and QA teams to streamline CI/CD and testing pipelines.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience withJava(preferably Java 11 or newer).

• Strong experience withSpring Framework(including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, etc.).

• Minimum 5+ years of commercial Spring Framework experience is required.

• Solid understanding and practical experience withEvent-Driven Architectureand messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).

• Familiarity withRESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.

• Experience working in anAgile/Scrumenvironment.

• Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

• Exposure to DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in thefinancial services industryor other regulated environments.

• Familiarity withcloud platforms(AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Understanding of security best practices and compliance standards in financial systems.
