Job summary

Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety is seeking a Senior Investigator to plan, coordinate and undertake complex investigations into local government compliance, governance and regulatory breaches. You will gather and analyse evidence, prepare briefs, and provide expert advice to support regulatory functions.

Successful candidates will engage with legal stakeholders, briefing senior management and government representatives, and contribute to continuous improvement

Qualifications

Job description

Your strong investigative, analytical, and case management skills, together with experience in conducting complex investigations, interpreting legislation, gathering and evaluating evidence, interviewing witnesses, preparing briefs of evidence, and managing sensitive matters, will be key to your success in this role.

Key responsibilities

• You will plan, coordinate and undertake investigations, gather and analyse evidence, prepare briefs and reports, execute statutory powers, and provide expert advice to support the Inspector's regulatory functions.


• As the Senior Investigator, you will form part of a dynamic team responsible for conducting complex investigations into matters relating to local government compliance, governance, and regulatory breaches.


• You will also liaise with legal stakeholders, brief senior management and government representatives, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.


• Drawing on your extensive investigative experience within regulatory, compliance, law enforcement, integrity, or public sector environments, you will play a vital role in ensuring investigations are conducted lawfully, efficiently, and to a high standard, supporting sound regulatory outcomes and public confidence in local government governance.

What you need

• To be eligible for fixed term employment you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia or have a valid visa to live and work in Australia for the duration of the fixed term employment at the time of application.
