Job summary

Queensland Government's Transport and Main Roads in Townsville seeks a Senior Inspector (Roadworks) to oversee monitoring, auditing, evaluation and reporting of roadworks contracts, ensuring safety, quality and value for money.

You will inspect routine and programmed works, mentor inspectors, manage risk, and provide expert advice on construction practices to deliver safe, customer-focused transport infrastructure outcomes for the community.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current Class C driver's licence and be eligible to work in Australia.
  • Criminal history check and serious disciplinary action declaration will be undertaken prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect contract delivery, including quality, safety, environmental and traffic management outcomes, and provide advice on contractor performance.
  • Conduct and manage audits of contractor works, processes and records to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Maintain detailed project records and reports suitable for legal and contractual purposes.
  • Guide and mentor inspectors in roadworks, contract administration and risk management practices.
  • Conduct condition and needs assessments, identify maintenance priorities and recommend remedial actions.
  • Apply project management, quality assurance and risk management principles, including surveillance planning.
  • Provide technical advice on road construction, maintenance standards and best practices.
  • Deliver operational support during critical incidents, emergencies and disaster response activities.

Job description

As a Senior Inspector (Roadworks), you will oversee the monitoring, auditing, evaluation and reporting of roadworks contracts and activities to ensure compliance with contract conditions, specifications, standards and service requirements. You will inspect routine, programmed, rehabilitation, line marking and reactive maintenance works, as well as third-party road corridor activities, critical incidents and disaster response operations. The role is responsible for ensuring high standards of safety, quality, governance and value for money are achieved. You will build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, apply sound risk management and governance practices, support innovation and continuous improvement, and provide expert advice on construction and maintenance practices to deliver safe, customer-focused transport infrastructure outcomes.

Mandatory qualifications:
  • A current Class 'C' Drivers Licence
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia.
  • Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check and serious disciplinary action declaration will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
Desirable requirements
  • Certificate III Civil Construction, or recognised equivalence
  • Certificate III Civil Construction Maintenance, or recognised equivalence
  • Certificate IV Civil Construction Supervision, or recognised equivalence
