Job summary

Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to provide specialist hydrogeological advice and support the sustainable management of groundwater across NSW.

You will contribute to groundwater impact assessments, investigations, water resource initiatives and policy development, working closely with government agencies, industry stakeholders and local communities to influence outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences or related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of groundwater systems and groundwater-dependent ecosystems.
  • Current NSW Driver Licence.

Job description

  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $142,695 to $154,2231 + super

Our Water team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Hydrogeologist.

About the role

In this role, you will provide specialist hydrogeological advice and technical expertise to support the sustainable management of groundwater resources across NSW. You will contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects, including groundwater impact assessments, hydrogeological investigations, water resource management initiatives and policy development, while working closely with government agencies, industry stakeholders and local communities.

Joining a collaborative and highly skilled team, you will have the opportunity to influence key environmental and water management decisions, solve complex technical challenges and contribute to outcomes that support healthy ecosystems, communities and industries across the state.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in hydrogeology, groundwater assessment and investigation, with strong knowledge of groundwater systems, groundwater-dependent ecosystems and water resource management principles.
  • Proven ability to undertake complex technical reviews, analyse groundwater impacts and provide evidence-based advice to support regulatory, planning and management decisions.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience managing multidisciplinary projects, contracts and competing priorities to deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex hydrogeological information into clear, practical advice for government, industry and community audiences.
  • Highly developed analytical, problem-solving and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively within and vacross teams, influence outcomes and develop practical solutions to complex groundwater management challenges.

Essential Requirements – As detailed in the Role Description

  • Degree level tertiary qualifications in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences or related disciplines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Government’s natural resource management policies.
  • Current NSW Driver Licence.
