Job summary

Narrabri Shire Council is seeking an experienced Senior People and Values Advisor to lead our People and Values team. You will partner with managers and employees to translate complex workplace requirements into fair, practical outcomes, strengthening leadership and culture.

With qualifications in HR and broad HR function experience, you will guide investigations, coach leaders, develop policies, and drive workforce capability across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in human resources or a related field or substantial relevant experience.
• Broad experience across a range of HR functions.
• Sound knowledge of contemporary HR practices and principles.
• Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide trusted advice on employee relations, performance, conduct and workplace change.
• Guide investigations, grievances and disputes through to fair and transparent resolution.
• Coach managers to confidently and consistently manage their people.
• Lead and support members of the People and Values team.
• Develop and implement contemporary policies, procedures and people initiatives.
• Oversee merit-based recruitment and competency assessment processes.
• Contribute to consultation, organisational development, employee engagement and workforce capability.
• Identify opportunities to improve our systems and practices across the employee lifecycle.

About the Role

As our Senior People and Values Advisor, you will be a trusted partner to managers and employees across Council. You will turn complex workplace requirements into practical, fair and workable outcomes while helping us strengthen leadership capability, organisational culture and the overall employee experience.

As our Senior Advisor, you will:

• provide trusted advice on employee and industrial relations, performance, conduct and workplace change;
• guide investigations, grievances and disputes through to fair and transparent resolution;
• coach managers to confidently and consistently manage their people;
• lead and support members of the People and Values team;
• develop and implement contemporary policies, procedures and people initiatives;
• oversee merit-based recruitment and competency assessment processes;
• contribute to consultation, organisational development, employee engagement and workforce capability; and
• identify opportunities to improve our systems and practices across the employee lifecycle.

You will work across a genuinely varied portfolio, with opportunities to contribute beyond day-to-day HR and make a visible impact across the organisation.

You are an experienced HR professional who is ready to step into a senior advisory and leadership role. You combine sound technical knowledge with good judgement, empathy and the confidence to have constructive conversations when matters become complex. Your expertise will assist in cultivating a workplace that embodies our corporate values, fostering an environment where trust and collaboration thrive.

You will bring:

• qualifications in human resources or a related field and/or substantial relevant experience;
• demonstrated experience across a broad range of human resource functions;
• sound knowledge of contemporary HR practices and principles;
• experience interpreting legislation, industrial instruments and workplace policies;
• strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills;
• the ability to lead, coach and support others;
• excellent organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities; and

Experience in NSW local government will be highly regarded but is not essential. If you have strong HR capability and genuinely enjoy helping people and organisations perform at their best, we would love to hear from you.
