Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer or Senior Engineering Geologist to join our Brisbane team. The role focuses on managing field investigations, construction phase inspections and delivering high-quality geotechnical reports.

You will work with engineers, hydrogeologists, geotechnicians and environmental scientists on a variety of projects, leading geotechnical design and ensuring outputs meet client timelines. A Chartered Engineer status is highly regarded.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering or Geology.
• Eight+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, preferably with leadership on design.
• Field geotechnical investigations including logging and supervision of drilling; lab testing knowledge.
• Current Driver's Licence and ability to travel to remote sites.
• Chartered Engineer status (RPEQ/CPEng/NER) highly regarded.
• Strong report writing and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and manage site investigations and prepare geotechnical reports.
• Undertake construction phase inspections to ensure design assumptions are met.
• Perform geotechnical analyses, modelling and design (slope stability, pavements, dams, foundations).
• Collaborate with engineers, hydrogeologists, geotechnicians and environmental scientists.
• Manage projects from inception to completion and deliver outputs on time.
• Assist in quoting and project delivery with high technical standards.

About the role

Our established Geosciences team provides a range of first-class geotechnical engineering services using a wide variety of investigation and analysis techniques. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer or Senior Engineering Geologist to join our team of professionals in our Geosciences business. The role will have a heavy emphasis on managing field investigations and undertaking construction phase inspections.

This role will be based in our Brisbane (Merivale Street Office) with flexible working arrangements such as work from home, staggered hours and other flexibility options.

Day to day tasks would involve:

• Plan, coordinate and manage site investigations to deliver geotechnical investigative reports - including interpreting geotechnical data, performing analysis and making recommendations.

• Undertaking construction phase inspections to ensure design assumptions are met and to resolve construction phase issue.

• Undertaking geotechnical analyses, modelling and design in areas such as slope stability, pavements, dams, foundations, retaining walls and other structures.

• Working as part of a team on a wide range of projects with experienced and highly qualified engineers, hydrogeologists, geotechnicians and environmental scientists/engineers.

• Managing a diverse range of projects from inception to completion.

• Participating in the quoting and delivery of projects; ensuring work outputs are of a high technical standard to meet client expectations and timelines.

• Undertaking engineering judgement, interpretation and analysis of data to develop and implement best practice to provide practical and commercial solutions.

• Producing high quality technical reports.

To be successful for this role you’ll need:

• Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering or Geology.

• At least eight years’ experience in geotechnical engineering preferably with experience in leading geotechnical design of projects.

• Experience in field geotechnical investigations including logging and supervision of geotechnical drilling activities as well as laboratory testing knowledge.

• Current Drivers Licence and the ability to travel to remote sites for project work.

• Working towards being a Chartered Engineer (RPEQ/ CPEng/ NER) will be highly regarded.

• Strong report writing coupled with excellent communication skills.
