Job summary

North Queensland Public Health Service is seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to deliver expert assessment, treatment, and consultation across adult and adolescent forensic populations in a regional setting.

The appointment spans custody and community settings, with opportunities for supervision and teaching, and a focus on culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Role available at Staff Specialist levels, with negotiable hours.

Qualifications

• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) with Certificate of Advanced Training in Forensic Psychiatry.
• Specialist registration, or eligibility for specialist registration, with the Medical Board of Australia.
• SIMGs with Substantially Comparable RANZCP outcomes are encouraged to apply and supported through the pathway.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert forensic psychiatric assessment, treatment, and consultation across adult and adolescent populations.
• Provide input into custodial and youth detention settings.
• Contribute to clinical governance, service development, and multidisciplinary leadership.
• Provide supervision, mentorship, and teaching to psychiatry trainees and the medical workforce.
• Contribute to culturally safe forensic care with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
