Job summary

Blackbook Recruitment seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer in Byron Bay. You will own embedded firmware across devices and systems, shaping software from design through testing and field validation.

Work across firmware, electronics and connected hardware with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-performance hydrofoil technology. Ideal candidates have 5–10+ years in firmware, strong C/C++ and RF/wireless experience, and a degree in software or related field.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years in firmware/embedded software.
• Strong hands-on experience developing embedded software in C/C++.
• Experience with RF, Bluetooth, wireless protocols.
• Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of firmware development across embedded devices and systems.
• Design, implement, test, verify and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++.
• Develop firmware across flight controllers, receivers, Bluetooth devices, battery systems and other connected systems.
• Diagnose and resolve complex firmware, hardware, RF, wireless communication and system-level issues.
• Collaborate with electronics and hardware engineers for robust software/hardware integration.
• Contribute to features across firmware and app, production and test tools.
• Develop unit testing and design-for-test approaches to improve firmware quality.
• Manage configuration and software versioning, forward/backward compatibility.
• Participate in on-water and off-water testing to refine performance.
• Contribute to code reviews and GitLab workflows.
• Provide technical guidance to other engineers in the firmware process.
• Establish and maintain software development standards and best practices.
• Investigate and resolve issues across firmware, hardware and connected systems.
