Job description

Our client is a large national civil contractor who are on the hunt for an expereinced Senior Estimator to grow their capabilities across SA. The primary objective of this position is to successfully tender civil engineering projects from $1M - $200M, with inherent profitability, both individually and in a team setting. Ensure accurate estimates are completed on time and in accordance with required technical standards.

The position:
  • Prepare accurate tenders on projects (up to ~$200M) in a timely manner, including sending out tender enquiries, assessing quotes, first principle estimating, project programming, analysis of the tender documentation, etc.
  • Estimate project quantities and costs in the preparation of major tenders on a timely and cost-effective basis.
  • Provide technical inputs as a member of a team of Estimators to ensure the timely completion of estimates.
  • Consideration of alternative construction methods or conditions to differentiate the tender.
  • Maintain records of all tender correspondence, calculations and envisaged methodologies.
  • Monitor current competitive process, new techniques and cost trends.
  • Carry out site inspections.
  • Assess risks and opportunities for tender review meeting and incorporation into @Risk spread sheets.
  • Present tender at tender review meetings.
  • Hand over successful tenders comprehensively to Project Managers.
  • Supply Project Managers with clear, concise documentation at contract commencement. Assist in allocating the Bill of Quantities for costing purposes.
  • Assist Project Managers in the financial administration of contracts.
  • Assist to supervise and develop support staff such as Estimators and Engineering Assistants.
  • Understand, comply and remain current with all Seymour Whyte policies, procedures and compliance training as relevant to your role.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and application of, legislation, industry standards and technological innovations as relevant to your role.
The Requirements

Tertiary qualifications in Civil engineering or similar related qualifications.

Suitable computer literacy - Expert Estimation, Excel, MS Project and Asta.

10+ years of engineering infrastructure experience, preferably with some onsite experience managing direct

labour and plant production and selection, on roadworks/concrete works, etc.

Demonstrated history of delivering winning submissions under a diverse range of contracting models (ag.

Entrepreneurial approach, constant search for commercial opportunities aligned with company's strategic

direction.

Demonstrated time management skills.

Ability to cope with last minute changes and feedback professionally.

Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, whilst maintaining optimal team performance and

general team unity.

Ability to work productively both autonomously and as part of an extended submission team.
