Job summary

WSP welcomes an experienced environmental professional to join NSW Environmental Approvals in Newcastle, supporting Hunter Water Corporation. The role focuses on leading environmental performance across construction projects and mentoring a small team.

With 7–10 years in environmental management, you will work with contractors, delivery partners and joint ventures to address environmental risks and ensure practical, compliant outcomes.

Qualifications

• Around 7–10 years' experience in environmental management.
• Strong construction site exposure and practical focus.
• Good knowledge of environmental legislation for construction.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team, including juniors.
• Experience with contractors or joint ventures.
• Valid driver's licence and white card.
• Auditor qualification or willingness to obtain accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental performance across projects in construction delivery.
• Manage and advise on environmental issues on active sites.
• Oversee review and continuous improvement of environmental plans.
• Collaborate with delivery partners and contractors to manage risks.
• Guide on-schedule delivery of city and community projects.
• Provide mentoring and day-to-day support to junior staff.
• Support major capital projects involving water and infrastructure.
• Provide environmental auditing capability post-approvals.
• Contribute to planning and approvals with a broader team.
• Develop practical responses to site environmental challenges.
