Job description
Senior Electrical Engineer – Water Infrastructure

Overview As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the application of electrical engineering principles to the design, integration, and operation of water and wastewater infrastructure. This contract role is pivotal in delivering efficient projects, optimising electrical systems, and driving continuous improvement across assets. Our Water Infrastructure team delivers critical electrical solutions to support water projects. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join the infrastructure business unit. This role provides technical leadership in electrical design, power systems planning, protection and control, and infrastructure investigations, enabling informed business decisions and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead the application of rigorous electrical engineering methodologies to optimise project electrical design, integration, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop and refine electrical engineering processes to enhance project execution, reduce installation and commissioning costs, and improve delivery timelines.
  • Identify and implement strategies to embed robust electrical design and control system practices throughout the project lifecycle; support the team in adopting best‑practice electrical engineering standards.
  • Utilise data analytics, power system modelling, protection and control simulation tools, and asset monitoring data to inform design decisions, optimise electrical performance, and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Lead electrical design reviews, safety analyses, and reliability assessments to ensure compliant, resilient, and safe infrastructure.
Your success in this role will come from
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or closely related field) with relevant experience in water/utilities or large‑scale infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience applying electrical engineering principles to complex infrastructure or utility projects, including power distribution, SCADA/telemetry, motor control, instrumentation, and electrical protective schemes.
  • Proven ability to identify inefficiencies and drive process improvements within electrical design and project delivery.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data‑driven problem solving and asset performance analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders, including civil/controls engineers, project managers, and operations teams.
What we offer
  • A challenging, collaborative environment with opportunities to influence the electrical design of critical water infrastructure.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package as an ABN or PAYG contractor.
