Job summary

PLS, based in West Perth, seeks an Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical and instrumentation design, review budgets, and oversee procurement for mining projects, including HV/LV systems and I&C elements.

The role reports to the Engineering Manager and entails site commissioning, vendor oversight, and occasional travel to the Pilbara; permanent full-time, based at our West Perth office near City West station.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years in electrical and instrumentation design within construction or commissioning.
  • Experience with HV/LV systems and instrumentation design; contract management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Development Leads to ensure projects meet requirements and specs across process plants, power and I&C.
  • Coordinate and manage engineering design to meet quality standards within time and budget.
  • Coordinate equipment procurement, including tendering, evaluation, award and expediting.
  • Assist in preparing installation contract scope and tender reviews.
  • Contribute to estimating and scheduling components of execution planning.
  • Provide design oversight during project execution and manage technical queries.
  • Project quality management with site and vendor factory inspections.
  • Assist in site commissioning and handover.
  • Travel to Pilbara site as required.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role is responsible for the budget, technical review, management, and delivery of the Contractors Engineering design, as well as proposing concepts and strategies to assist in further mine, processing plant and NPI expansions.

This is a permanent full-time role based at our West Perth office, conveniently located near the City West train station.

Key responsibilities
  • Assist the Development Leads in ensuring projects are completed as per the requirements and specifications of the project. This may include scopes ranging from greenfield and brownfields projects across process plants, power generation/distribution and instrumentation and control systems.
  • Responsible for the coordination and management of engineering design to ensure that design technical and quality standards are achieved within allocated time and budget.
  • Responsible for the coordination and management of equipment procurement, including tender, evaluation, award and expediting delivery.
  • Assist in the preparation of installation contract scope of works and commercial tender reviews.
  • Contribute to estimating and scheduling components of works execution planning.
  • Provide technical design oversight to project execution phase including management of technical queries and engineering consultants.
  • Project quality management, including frequent inspections both on site & vendor factories.
  • Assist in site project commissioning and operational handover.
  • Travel to our operational site in the Pilbara region required from time to time.
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 Years Electrical & Instrumentation design engineering experience with strong technical skills within a construction or commissioning environment.
  • Strong Technical skills & experience with HV, LV & Instrumentation design
  • Previous experience in commercial contract management.
  • Knowledge of statutory safety requirements relevant to the processes.
  • Strong communication skills with people at all levels in the organisation.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and Familiar with ETAP, Digsilent or similar software
  • Takes personal ownership over completion of tasks
