Job summary

Safearth is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Newcastle team. This is a hands-on role balancing field testing, reporting and technical leadership across NSW and Australia.

You will design earthing and lightning protection systems, perform risk assessments, mentor juniors, and deliver client-focused proposals and high-quality reports. Hybrid role with site work and travel.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in consulting, utilities, mining, or industrial environments
• Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar modelling tools
• Understanding of HV and LV power systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and technical accuracy
• Proactive, team-oriented mindset
• Willingness to travel and undertake site-based work

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Newcastle team.

This is not a standard design-only consulting role. It’s a technically deep, hands-on position combining:

Field-based testing and investigation

Proposal and report development

Technical leadership and mentoring

You will develop specialist expertise in a niche, high-value discipline while working on diverse projects across NSW and Australia.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will work closely with a highly skilled team of engineers and technicians, contributing to:

Technical Engineering & Analysis

Earthing system design and performance assessment

Lightning protection system design and compliance verification

What You’ll Bring

Degree in Electrical Engineering

5+ years’ relevant engineering experience (consulting, utilities, mining, or industrial environments preferred)

Strong analytical and critical thinking capability

Understanding of HV and LV power systems

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

High attention to detail and technical accuracy

A proactive, team-oriented mindset

Strong commitment to work health and safety

Australian permanent residency or valid work visa (please include visa status in application)

Willingness to travel and undertake site-based work

Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar modelling tools

Background in utilities, mining, renewables, or heavy industry

Experience managing complex technical tasks independently

Experience mentoring or supporting small technical teams
