Job summary

Origin Energy is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design and technical assurance for distributed energy projects including solar, batteries and EV charging. You will balance safety, design quality, and life-cycle performance while leveraging data and AI-enabled tooling to improve efficiency and decision-making.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ electrical engineering experience in solar, batteries, EV charging or distributed energy.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, network connections and detailed design.
• HV and protection experience is highly regarded.
• CPEng status or working towards it; RPEQ and SAA accreditations are highly regarded.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and technical assurance of distributed energy resource projects across solar, batteries, EV charging, embedded networks, demand management, energy efficiency and orchestration-enabled assets from concept to handover.
• Develop and review concept and detailed designs, specifications, calculations, single line diagrams and connection documentation.
• Optimise safety, compliance, constructability, reliability and whole-of-life project value.
• Provide senior technical advice across project delivery, business development, customers and delivery partners (network connections, power system analysis, HV, protection, commissioning, technical risk).
• Improve engineering standards and reusable designs through digital tools, data and responsible AI-enabled methods.

About the role

At Origin Zero, we partner with large commercial and industrial customers to unlock value through the energy transition, designing integrated energy solutions that improve cost, carbon, resilience and asset performance. As Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll lead the electrical design and technical assurance of distributed energy resource projects across solar, batteries, EV charging, embedded networks, demand management, energy efficiency and orchestration-enabled assets, from concept through detailed design, delivery and operational handover.

This is a role for a technically strong, commercially aware engineer who can balance safety, design quality, compliance, constructability and whole-of-life performance, while using technology, data and AI-enabled ways of working to improve engineering efficiency, assurance and decision-making.

What will you bring?

• 5+ years’ relevant electrical engineering experience across commercial solar, batteries, EV charging or distributed energy, with strong knowledge of Australian Standards, network connections and detailed design; HV and protection experience is highly regarded.


• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with CPEng status or working towards it; RPEQ and SAA solar and battery design accreditation are highly regarded.


• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement capability, with the ability to translate complex technical detail into clear, compelling advice for customers, project teams, delivery partners and executive audiences.


• Engineering depth and interpersonal influence, with the confidence to move projects forward across complex customer and stakeholder environments.


• Confidence using AI, data and digital engineering tools, with a continuous improvement mindset focused on design quality, assurance, productivity and customer outcomes.


• Proven capability with electrical and renewable energy design tools such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, PowerCad or similar.
